How do you really think the season will go. I think we will have another one of those seasons of just about qualifying for the champions league. Honestly can't see us challenging for the title this year.

Are you an Arsenal fan posting on the wrong site?!

Not sure what team you support as apart from the one year in which we 'just about qualified' for the champs league by winning it, I can't think of many years recently that we've scrapped for 4th place. In fact we haven't finished 4th since 02/03 season.
Whilst I've been underwhelmed by both our preseason and transfers so far, to discount us as being title contenders is beyond silly. City still have a very old squad, with a few extra average English players. Utd have bought some good players but they will need to work on cohesion and I still think their system will work against them. Arsenal are only 1-2 injuries away from scrapping for 4th and I'd say they're our closest challengers.
The other midtable teams don't worry me.

No supported Chelsea for 50 years. This is just my personal view, doesn't make me less of a supporter. Why should I say I think we will be challenging for the title, when I don't think we will. Just my prediction for this season, and I hope I am proved to be wrong.

I have supported Chelsea for over 50 years, and am entitled to make a prediction of how I think the team will get on during the season, just as every other Chelsea supporter is entitled to do. Just because I don't think the team will win the league this year makes me less of a supporter than everyone else. I certainly hope they win, but my own personal view is that they won't, and I hope I am proved wrong. Look on the other sites, the Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool, their supporters have honest opinions on how their team will get on, if they don't think their team will win the league does that mean they support someone else?

It was apparent in the second half of last season and no more apparent in pre-season, we do not have a great deal of firepower and still struggle with a packed defence with all this tippy tap football. It cannot be just me that sees it this way?

Sid I couldn't agree more much better to be a fan without blinkers on. I agree really can't see us winning the League unless we can get some more goals.

{Ed018's Note - it's the same issue I talked about for the second half of last season. Other than Hazard and Costa I just don't see where the goals are gonna come from.}

No offense but Liverpool and Arsenal supporters having honest opinions/expectations! HA! Both teams supporters have been predicting they'll win the league for the last decade and haven't even really come close.
I don't think that if you're a chelsea supporter, you're obliged to believe that we'll be challengers but pretty much every single person/pundit has tipped chelsea to win the league again. Also it's the small things that make us doubt you support chelsea, such as saying 'they' instead of 'we' or 'the team' instead of 'our team'. And the fact that you think we've scrapped for the champs league places, which leads us to believing you're not a chelsea supporter.
Also if you actually qualified your opinion with reasons as to why you feel we won't even challenge for the title perhaps we wouldn't be so quick to dismiss your opinion.

Someone give Roman or Jose a shake and tell them every fan in the world are concerned cause this team isn't good enough to retain the league without some goal scorers in the team I think we will struggle

05 Aug 2015 22:09:59
I don't necessarily expect us to win the league but to not even challenge would be a shock. I agree that we need more goals if we are going to win.

As I have stated many many times we need a goalscoring cm and a winger as close to hazard as we can get (we should have gone all out for Sanchez or reus but not happening now). Gotze looks like he could move if we pushed so he would be my choice. Pogba for cm but again think that will never happen. WAKE UP CHELSEA! (And blinkered fans!)

Interesting to read 'Sid' a supporter for 50 years and I agree in many respects with his comments because he has seen it happen before although I don't think we will be outside the first four. My first game was in April 1955 when we beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 to all but seal the title so between us we will have seen the many ups and downs that have dogged the Clubs career and to my mind we should have won the title three years in a row, the third being 06-07 BUT we got complacent and THIS is what I think is happening to an extent now. Last year was not a vintage year and the best team won but we will not win it this year scoring just 73 goals.

My God, the negativity! I totally agree that we are too Hazard / Matic dependent and if either of those get side-lined for a long period we will struggle to replace them BUT I will bet any of you that we will challenge for the title and finish in the top 2 - we'll come back to this next May!

Mrs Costa: I would prefer concern rather than negativity. You highlight our dependency on two players, one up front, one in the middle, the two areas that are problematic. Costa is now a huge concern for the season overall, Falcao needs support and goals and Remy cannot cut it; this is not negativity it is real concern and many of the recent contributors are all homing in on that same thing. Fabregas is not effective unless he can find players to put the ball in the net or assist him and it is not happening. Swansea will be a tougher nut than Fiorentina.

On a different tack, Frensham, I'm not old enough (still a twinkle in my dad's eye!) to remember '55 but my Dad used to go on about that game against Wolves and the referee not spotting that Wright had punched the ball over the bar and a lot of confusion until he eventually gave Chels a penalty.

06 Aug 2015 20:01:11
Mrs "Twinkle in his Dad's eye" Costa: It must have been your Dad standing next to my Dad and I as we all held our breath as Peter Sillett (minutes silence please) walked up and nearly knocked the ball inside out as he scored. Boy the ups and downs we have had since then!
