It is getting very late in the day now and nothing exciting or encouraging seems to be happening. My guess is that Chelsea will be unsuccessful yet again. There were lots of players available this summer that the club should have signed to improve the team massively but we were slow to the market and have been punished accordingly.

Can I just ask which players you would of bought, at the price they were sold for? And whether they showed any interest in moving to England, let alone Chelsea. As deals aren't as easy as saying, I want that one, I'll pay x amount, thanks.

Look at Utd. Overpaid for a couple of players and still have a weaker squad then us. Citeh were just mental and will live to regret it. They may well win the league this year, but it will come back to haunt them. Liverpool were a mess, again. Arsenal and Spurs haven't made much of an impact. Realisticly, the only player that has gone to any of the clubs mentioned, that I'd want, would be Son. And maybe the defender from Valencia whose name escapes me. Son has no resale value, as he has to complete 18 months in the SK army before 28, and the Valencia lad has proven nothing in the league, and went for stupid money.

Everyone can moan about the club being slow in the market, but not when everyone was also asking for the youth to get a chance, which will most likely happen now. I, personally, am fine with the window we have had. We didn't get our pants pulled down by anyone, got a terrific second choice keeper in, have the possibility of a world class striker as back up, brought in some quality youth, and have loaned out some youngsters extremely well, once again.

If Eden can rediscover form, Oscar show consistency after his first summer break from football, Costa get back in form, RLC and Kenedy get good minutes, Zouma cement his spot and Rahman show some promise with Azpi shifting to RB, I'll be more then happy. We might not win the league, but will be in a great position to challenge on all fronts the year after, with some new additions.

I saw no one predict anything really negative before pre season, yet now everyone is a genius. Support the club, win, lose or draw, and watch our team grow.

Agree with you somewhat but why will citeh live to regret it

01 Sep 2015 15:43:41
Melbourne, I was negative pre-season - please give me that.

Agree completely with what Melbourne was saying. The players that we were associated with that went elsewhere were largely no better than players we already had and would've had the potential to block youngsters paths to the first team. Take Garay from Zenit for example and compare him to the centreback from Nantes. Garay would've costed a good deal and would've most likely been more difficult to move down the line whereas the Nantes guy is very reasonably priced and wouldn't be difficult to move or prevent the club from signing a primary target (stones, varane) down the line.

Fair enough Mrs Costa, you were. I just assume that's your general outlook though ;)

Melbourne in reply not all players in the list I am now making off the top of my head have moved but it was made clear that they would be made available at the right price that in most cases were not astronomical. I will focus on midfield and attack as I do agree targets for cb have been difficult. Cabeye, imbula, kondogbia, vidal, song, schnerderlin. Isco, goetze, lacazette, sterling. As I said this list is just of the top of my head with 2 mins thinking. It has been clear since about jan/Feb this year that we needed a new world class right winger, cm and striker to be proper replacement for Costa but in my opinion the only position the club may have done that for is rw. I have stated this again and again sine about mid last season. Don't even get me started on the club signing cuadrado over reus and not accepting isco in exchange for ramires!

The money they have spent this window will make it near impossible for them to spend on anyone significant again in the next two seasons, without major sales (think Aguero and Silva). They didn't need Sterling and KBD. One would've added enough fire power to most likely claim the league, as both are good attacking threats, but neither are CL proven. And playing for the club that has also suffered in the competition, with an owner who is craving big ears and if they aren't successful this year, it will only end in tears.

Think in terms of injuries, which are bound to come about, especially with someone like Aguero. Who is a PL proven striker in there squad now that Dzeko is gone? Sterling failed miserably when he played there at Liverpool. Unal is not ready. I can't remeber if Jovetic ended up getting loaned, but if not, he has brittle bones as well. So they have added to a midfield, that had quality, with one player who has zero loyalty, and another that has zero bottle. Neither of which will have sale on value. The centre of defence when it was the fullback spots that needed looking after, and the player they brought in is a risk, and they have done nothing upfront, when their star man has a tendency to get injured. And due to their spending, may now not be able to fill the holes they've left in the coming seasons, without selling their two clear best players. TV money may be what they are relying on, but when owner investment can amount to £45m over three years, if the club fails to make a profit, I'd be doubtful it will do enough.

So if you asked me, they could well regret this window!

I agree City will live to regret this summer. They seem to be buying for the sake of it. £58m for De Bruyne is ridiculous. And even if he is English, £49m for Sterling is just as ludicrous. Let's see how long De Bruyne sits on the bench before spitting his dummy. Also, I don't know if EUFA have just given up on FFP, but City have already been warned and I just can't see how they can afford this without selling big. And, as Melbourne alluded to, when Aguero picks up his inevitable injury who is going to score for them?

{Ed008's Note - De Bruyne walks into that City team, De Bruyne-Silva-Sterling with Aguero upfront. Bony will score the goals for them. You've just got to admit that Man City have had a hell of summer bring 3 players in who all strengthen the team. The positions they struggled in last season.

Chelsea needed a centre-back,left-back, right-winger, attacking midfielder, and a back up striker and they only addressed 2 of those issues where they actually get into the team in Pedro and Falcao.

Reus wasnt avaible in Jan, if my memory serves, he was still only just coming back from an injury, and his attitude has been widely publicised as poor. Not to mention he has spoken of his desifre to play in Spain, close to a billion times, so I think the club did well to steer clear.

And when were we offered Isco for Ramires in a straight swap? Isco has been available this summer, you're right about that, but what's the price? Something we are not privy to, and with no club signing him, you have to assume its stupid money. All this talk of RM being keen on Rami has led to how many bids?

Every player you mentioned has risk attached or some ridiculous amount of money, that they aren't worth. Or, like in Songs case, a ridiculous wage, that he isn't worth. Cabaye is a flake, who couldn't cut it at PSG, so why would we want him. Schniederlin wanted United, not Chelsea. Vidal has gone backwards since his injury. Lacazette is ridiculous money, for an unproven commoditity. Goetze proved hit and miss at Bayern, plus, like Isco, while available no one has acquired him. Why?

As much as it has been in the past, and fans crave new toys, its not FIFA15 mate. We know nothing of the details of deals. So you can't blast the club, with a quarter or less of the information they have. Some players have poor attitudes, which I, for one am happy we scan for. Hazard almost didn't come because of his attitute. The club madethe right call on that one, and I wholeheartedly trust them going forwards.

I do agree with you that players were available, but is it worth the club being held to ransom, to get a player that wasnt one of our top priorities?

You make some excellent points Melbourne and other than the ( City regretting it ), I pretty much agree with you. We are in fairly good shape overall with a decent first 11 and some strength in depth. The loan players must bring in over £20M per year in income ( Moses loan fee is £2M with West Ham also paying his wages ). I would of liked Stones or Varanne but as you say, we can't force clubs to sell. Now I think our season will depend on the young players stepping up a notch. If Baba proves to be a quality player and Jose switches Dave to RB and makes Zouma our main CB with either JT, Cahil, Branna or even one of the new signings our defence looks better. We then need RLC to step up and slot into the role alongside Matic which is where Pogba would likely of played. Oscar could be like signing a £50M player if he comes back fresh and continues to develop but we also need Kenedy and Traore to step up as well. I think Costa, Falcao and Remy will all score plenty of goals between them so up front we are fine. In summary, your points are excellent but I feel 2 or 3 of Baba, Zouma, RLC, Kenedy and Traore need to go to the next level for us to really challenge this Season.

Melbourne, we were offered Isco last summer if I recall correctly.

01 Sep 2015 17:23:09
Ed008, would like to point out we have signed a very good LB in Baba Rahman and also have Bertrand Traore to come in who I think could be a real breakthrough star this season as a Striker, Winger or maybe even as an Attacking Midfielder. Don't know enough about Papy, but at the price it is worth the gamble and could prove to be a bargain.
I think KDB will do okay at City, but Wolfsburg set their entire team up around him and City won't do that as their team is set up around Yaya Toure and to a lesser extent David Silva. I for one am curious to see if he can still be influential in this kind of system, he struggles in this role for Belgium with the team being set up around Hazard.

{Ed008's Note - Is Baba Rahman good because you've seen him play? I doubt it very much you will see Traore play many games this season. Mourinho is stubborn and has set on his core 18 players to choose from despite complaining about lack of squad depth.
