I know that it is not set in stone but from what I can gather from the rumours page we are targeting Marquinhos over stones., . I think that if we were to miss out on stones it would be A shame for many reasons. 1 he's English which is more important than it used to be and would have a big impact on the home grown coefficient; also I think the fans just love to see a good English lad especially a defender just bossing a game and is great to get behind. I also think the English lads tend to stay at the club for the long term and I think a player like stones could become apart of chelsea and go on to be a great. Whereas I just feel that Marquinhos would also be looking for a move to real or Barcelona like some foreigners do when they feel they are the best player at the club (ronaldo, Suarez. On to their actual ability I know people have questioned Marquinhos' physique but I don't think stones is overly physical either and both would bulk up once they are at the club. Marquinhos has the potential to be a world beater in his day and could be world class. But I don't feel that is what we need really, I th that zouma has that potential and I think stones would compliment him nicely and offer a more composed style of play. The brain to zouma's brawn. Also his versatility reminds a bit of ivanovic and he could be called to play in a few positions and would be able to shine. I think Marquinhos is a great player but I just don't feel we would get the same from him as we would stones. Also I think I can speak for all of us when saying seeing stones in a United kit would leave a sour taste in our mouths. I know I've been rambling for ages and I apol for that. But if you look 5 or 6 years down the line. And it's a rainy November Tuesday night at Sunderland. Who would you trust more stones or Marquinhos, ucl semis away and under the cosh against barca. Who do you trust to throw their body in front of the ball stones or Marquinhos, who do you expect to galvanise the team when you are down to 10 at the Emirates stones (touted for England captaincy) or Marquinhos. I appreciate some of you will disagree and I'm probably being bias. But I think choosing Marquinhos over stones may be a mistake.

I'd choose Marquinhos over Stones when we're playing Barcelona to be honest. He's been there already, so he's used to a higher level of football. Plus he can also play right back, he's even done so against us. And like Stones, he's tidy on the ball (he's Brazilian after all) .
The reason why I'd be hesitant to go after Stones is exactly because United could be in for him. With their insane amount of money they'd either blow us out of the water or they'd contribute to us massively overpaying (it's called "the winner's curse" in economics ;-) ) .

I'd have Marquinhos he reminds me a lot of Carvalho. Not the biggest CB but fantastic in the air. If you watch Marquinhos he's also fantastic on the ball brilliant for his age. Azpilicueta, Zouma, Marquinhos and Baba would be a quality back four once the latter three gain more experience. After Varane, I think Marquinhos is the best young CB around followed by Laporte, Zouma and Stones. With Everton not wanting to sell Stones to us in the summer I really do see him at United. It would leave us with Marquinhos, Zouma, Terry and Cahill as CB's, which would be great. If Terry does retire I'd like to see Christensen take his place he seems to be doing well at Monchengladbach.

Regarding English players we have great talents in our youth. By next season I hope RLC will establish himself as a first team player. Aina has great potential he should have started vs Stoke. And I have no doubt Solanke shall make it at Chelsea. I also see Stones ending up at United.

I think the homegrown situation will be fine, whether we get Stones or a foreign CB. To me, our "golden" academy products are RLC, Solanke, Musonda and Christensen. I think all of them would be registered as homegrown players and I believe they all have the quality to play for our team in the future. I just hope the Musonda situation will sort itself out, as he needs playing time at a good level. He's way too good to just play U21 games right now.

I think izzy brown or boga could make it too. If theu get enough game time out on loan this season which neither seems to be getting at the moment.

I feel it for Stones because he did hand in a transfer request but Everton can do one, I don't want that club to get a cent from Chelsea for a long time because the whole saga felt very personal.

The reason we are targeting Marquinhos over Stones is very simple - Stones is not for sale.

I'm not sure Marquinhos is up for sale either.
