I'm trying to get my head around our defensive situation, so let's say we sign Alonso, I'm thinking if we pay 24 mill he will be in starting 11, with azpilacueta going right back, then when zouma comes back to fitness he will start, so we sign a big money CB he will start so that would mean ivanovic, Cahill, terry and aina on the bench/ not starting I don't know why but I just can't see them 3 being on the bench, then if terry doesn't retire or leave next season and christienson comes back we would have 6 centre backs and we only play 2,

I want to say for whatever reason that off the top of my head the club envisioned Christensen coming into the squad as a replacement for Cahill. We also must keep in mind that christensens future with Chelsea is far from certain. Then take into account that both Terry and Ivanovic are on 1 year contracts which the club are seemingly reluctant to give out. So say they both leave the club in addition to Cahill. Then you can also consider that Conte is no stranger to a back 3. I am absolutely certain that the club is considering all of these things when looking for a centrehalf.

Come on this season Cahill and ivanovic will be benched. Next year jt and ivanovic will leave.

I didn't know ivanovic was on a 1 year contract, everybody keeps mentioning a back 3 but what if we play 4 at the back and we sign a CB tomorrow or in January, I don't think Christiensen would be happy being on the bench after 2 seasons of playing week in week out could be a problem.
