Ed2 on united page has said fabregas is keen to stay. Always thought he would stay, has appeared to be very happy for a while.

Agree3 Disagree0

its the smart move to keep hold of him, who else realistically could we buy who has his passing ability his metal strength and drive, even if we signed veratti he would cost us close to a world record, he is only about 5foot 5, would he settle to the pace of the english game, would he adapt to a new country, language culture ect, if fabregas is used in his proper position he is world class and only 30 years old is a great age for him, he has never relied on pace, he could stay for 5 more years and become our pirlo, scholes, xavi, don't play him in a 2 man midfield and judge him on work rate and tackling, play him in a 3 man midfield and judge him on being a playmaker, assists, dictate the play, just look at other teams players in the same position, thiago for bayern is'nt expected to race up and down all game, veratti don't sprint back and make last ditch sliding tackles, same with toni kroos, build the team around him and play to his strength.

Couldn't agree more Cat, well said.

14 Jun 2017 11:54:12
While I tend to agree, Cat, I do think Verratti would be worthy of a world record fee. Along with Kroos, Modric and maybe Thiago I think he's the best CM in the world and he could absolutely transform our play.
Verratti controls possession and the tempo of the game. He'd rip that Spurs press to pieces if they'd try to do that on him. The way he dismantled Barcelona in midfield during the first leg of their CL encounter this past season was one of the best midfield performances I've seen myself.
Sadly though he won't be joining us and it's all a dream.

14 Jun 2017 12:57:16
Except that Conte didn't build his team around Fabregas. But I agree that we have to keep Fabregas.
Actually our CM's don't want to leave Chelsea, so we can be cool with it.

14 Jun 2017 14:08:14
i agree about verratti i think he's class my point is, if we swapped cesc with any of the players i mentioned put them in a 2 man midfield in england and they had to be box to box, press, tackle basically roy of the rovers stuff, they would all struggle, all of them are quite similar, i just hate it that fabregas is the second highest assists in the premiership history and he went to Barcelona for 3 years, and people say he don't do enough, that's his game pass, assist, can we imagine xavi in his prime playing in a 2 in england being box to box tracking runners, winning headers, winning 50/ 50 balls, not a chance, if anything it shows how amazing cesc is, not only has he got to play the xavi role and pass and create he has to do the makelle role also and defend, thas what people expect him to do, its crazy,2nd most assists in prem history, he's creating he's doing his job.

{Ed001's Note - Xavi did track runners and press, that was the point. Fabregas was booted out because he was lazy, unlike Xavi, which is why they didn't want him. I don't know what on earth you think the Barca midfield does, but they do not stand around watching when they lose the ball, that is the whole point of they system - press and win it back high.}

14 Jun 2017 17:35:42
Cat i agree with you that we should keep hold of cesc fabregas at all cost this summer as he is best passer of ball in EPL.
However if we need to play at fabregas's strength then we need 3 mens midfield, mean we need to change our last season's winning formation which i don't think will happen.

However i do believe in Verratti that he can fill that role better alongside kante/ Bakayoko.

14 Jun 2017 17:49:21
yes ed i know about the Barcelona 6 second press, i've watched many programs about Barcelona and how they are taught to always play the way your facing, cryff, guardiola football ect, my point was not pressing though it was actually winning 50/ 50 s and slide tackles, come of the pitch looking like terry butcher with a bandage, that's no cesc game he is a luxury player, but what a luxury to have the second all time assists in our midfield, if he stays for 5 years he will have the most assists ever in england in a lot less seasons than giggs.

{Ed001's Note - but you said Xavi didn't make tackles, he did.}

14 Jun 2017 18:41:25
every footballer tackles, xavi made interceptions and blocks and pressed (6second rule ), honestly ed was xavi known for winning 50/ 50 s against 6 foot 4 destroyers, no, did xavi sprint back and make last ditch roy of the rovers, save the day tackles, no, there is an interview with pep guardiola on youtube, and he says pique, busquets and xavi must have a pass success rate of 88% or more for his Barcelona to play the way he wanted, have a look at it ed, he didn't mention tackling, pep even said this season that he don't train tackling, there is another interview with xabi alonso, and he says the biggest difference between english and spanish football is in england tackling is an art, they teach it celebrate it, make a living out of it, he said in spain they don't teach it its a last resort, you only tackle if you make a mistake by giving the ball away, they instead train to keep the ball, yes xavi presses but a kante he is not.

{Ed001's Note - I never said he was a Kante, but he is far from a Cesc, who was not even pressing as he is lazy.}

14 Jun 2017 19:07:45
ed i respect your views opinions, i take it you think he should do more without the ball i get that, do you think fabregas could play to a world class level at the base of midfield similar to the pirlo role, he's got the technical ability to be the deep lying playmaker, and again i never seen pirlo making many tackles he was always judged on his ball playing ability, he would glide around the park controlling the tempo, in the rite system do you think fabregas could do that job.

{Ed001's Note - no, Fabregas is not good enough to do that role.}

14 Jun 2017 21:20:29
Always one of the hardest workers in covers more grass than most.

14 Jun 2017 19:38:07
he must be doing something good though ed all them spanish caps,2nd most assists in premiership history, average players don't get over 100 caps before 30, not just any team spain as well.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so, but I think that kind of argument just shows you are struggling, as you are talking about team achievements rather than personal ones. Plus he wasn't always lazy, this is something that has grown from him. Luckily for him, the Spain team has got weak, otherwise he would be nowhere near it. They do not have great strength in depth, especially with the likes of Xavi and Alonso gone. There is only really Ander Herrera left who is a top level midfielder for them. By the way, the fact Busquets has so many caps, and is entirely average, shows that average players do get a lot of caps if it is in an area of the pitch there is little competition.}

15 Jun 2017 07:11:07
Busquets is average, yet remained in the what is possibly the worlds best ever club football team without being replaced?

I think average is a little harsh.

{Ed001's Note - team is the key word, Liverpool in the 80s had a number of average players, yet swept all before them. No team has eleven great players, Bill Shankly used to say there were 8 to carry the piano and 3 to play it. Just look at how many trophies John O'Shea has won, you can be an important part of a team without being top quality. It is about providing something they need to complete a whole. Cahill, for instance, on Chelsea, not the greatest defender in the world by any means whatsoever, but he was an integral part of the team. Teams need players to fit with other players, it is not always about being individually great or Real Madrid would have won everything every season over the last few years.}

15 Jun 2017 10:03:50
if you think busquets is average then people like jordan henderson, and can, should't even be paid to be footballers, they should go to prison for fraud.

{Ed001's Note - if that is your belief then you are wasting your time on a football site, as you know nothing about the game. If you are unable to understand the point I am making then you are just wasting my time. I won't bother again.}

15 Jun 2017 10:39:45
dont take offence ed its just opinions on players nothing personal, i was just curious as you don't think fabregas is good enough, and busquets is average, how do you rate really really bad centre mids like emre can or jordan henderson or players of that low level in england?

{Ed001's Note - told you I am done, there is no point as you are talking crap now deliberately to be an arse. Bye bye, please don't waste my time again, I have better things to do than waste it here.}
