People said lampard was average when he was with a average team in west ham. Look what happened to him.
Barkley is a class act and I'd take him.

He's worse defensively than Fabregas. If he came here he would almost certainly play in the front 3 and we don't presently have a need there. No thanks.

Both Barkley and Fabregas are offensive and creative players.It is not the point that every player has to look like Bakayoko (defensive non creative wood-any central back can emulate that).Both named players are typical central attacking midfielders(classic n 10).
Regularly coaches play one offensive (Lampard, Gerard, Fabregas, Barkley) and one defensive (Matic, Bakayoko, Carick, Simeone,) that's when they play with 2 CM'S. When they play with 3 CM's they use 1 defensive and 2 offensive CMs.
Only Mourinho loves to play with 2 defensive CMs and 1 offensive CM of 3.Oscar left Chelsea so Chelsea needs attacking midfielder.Mikel left we have Bakayoko, Matic left and we need CM (Drinkwater is closest we can get). It's actually so pointless to discuss this.

maybe worth a punt i don't no he never stepped up that extra level we all expected hed be worth a look at around 20 million definitely.

WTF are you talking about"he hasn't stepped up". He is 23. Hazard was the same age when signed for Chelsea. English international, regular starter in a club that always played first rank of football in England. If any young English player stepped up it's Ross Barkley.
