When will our board learn? Everyone and his dog can see the areas we need filling, yet we **** around with players that are unavaliable or don't want to play for us all summer long. Yes we've bought in some quality replacements but feel that we've badly messed up yet again. especially more so now that we have the Champions League to play with also. Very disappointed again in the board. Thought we had learnt our lessons after the Jose fiasco.

If by 11pm tomorrow night we haven't made 2-3 signings, we have to hope and pray no one gets injured on international duty. Last year we were lucky with injuries. A few injuries will deplete our squad this season especially being back in the Champions League.

Still holding out hope for a few surprise signings on deadline day just like last year with Alonso and Luiz.

Right now though I'd seriously take Drinkwater, Rafinha and Llorente. Just to add a bit of depth to our squad.

30 Aug 2017 18:47:12
Don't know why people are disagreeing with me. It's the truth. left short in wing back roles. Striker role, midfield too.

Struggling to sign squad players and cannot shift Costa. 👏👏. Well done CHELS.

30 Aug 2017 19:21:54
Adam people are entitled to disagree with other posters!
Let's wait and see what other players we have signed when the window has shut.
The latest news on Costa is that a broad agreement with AM on a fee has been agreed.

30 Aug 2017 19:21:59
People are on denial mate. The two responsible need to be sucked.

30 Aug 2017 19:24:00
I agree Bobby23 we need some depth and those 3 will do fine. I still think we going to have a cracker of a season. Go Blues!

30 Aug 2017 19:24:52
We don't always agree on our comments but CFCAdam is correct. I will take Drinkwater and Llorente as back-up but Conte made it clear what the team needed almost at season end and with one day to go we are seriously lacking when we have numerous competitions to face not least the PL and Europe and we are either going to a) pull a couple of last day strokes of magic or b) endure the "Djilobodji" syndrome all over again. The question the club needs to ask itself is why players are not desperate to join Chelsea as they are with other equally big clubs.

30 Aug 2017 19:32:16
It seems that Baba Rahman will cover LWM position. CM position is exposed if we don't sign Drinkwater or Barkley. RWM position is well covered so we need either RWM or one more CB since Azpilicueta and Rüdiger are both able to play RWM. Llorente would provide decent cover as a thrid striker.
P. S. Don't forget that Drinkwater was perfect partner to Kante at Leicester.

30 Aug 2017 19:53:41
Rudiger is not a wing back or sutible cover for that position, Cesar isn't the answer there either, we shouldn't settle for "that'll do" for cover, we are Chelsea and the champions,
I personally think it's laughable we haven't got players in who specialize in the rwb/ lwb roles.

30 Aug 2017 19:57:17
I suggested a few days ago that we might consider keeping Baba for season to cover the left side but I'm concerned he won't be fit for a few more months and can't defend for toffee. Up to Conte to do his magic on him!
We have already signed what appear to be three quality players plus we have the introduction of Christensen. So, the club is able to sign top players in what is now a very compatible transfer market.
I remain optimistic that the club willl sign three more players before the window shuts!

30 Aug 2017 20:12:43
Matt that's why it's called providing the cover. Moses is the first choice. Personally I believe that Kennedy can provide decent cover for Alonso as well.

30 Aug 2017 20:27:02
No matter what everyone says it has been a farcical end of the window. All talk, unrealistic targets and pulling wool over Conte's face pretending we will be signing 3 or 4 players when it was obvious we wouldn't. Dream on.

30 Aug 2017 20:41:54
I'm happy. After all, we are the Champions of England. We have a fantastic manager, at least four world class players, an owner that has put the club on the football map and Champions league football again at the bridge!
As far as I know the Chelsea board are the same people who were in charge last season when we walked away with the league. So I'm not sure how any of them deserve to be given the tin tack!

30 Aug 2017 20:46:50
Let's imagine that Conte does magic with LWM, RWM even with ST improvising with Pedro. BUT THERE'S NO WAY THAT WE CAN DEFEND THE TITLE WITHOUT ONE MORE CENTRAL MIDFIELDER! NO WAY!
We should have never sold Matic especially to bloody MU be CB before we didn't sign CM.

30 Aug 2017 21:07:30
I have to disagree with opinion that Drinkwater would be squad player.I was Bakayoko or Fabregas I would not be so confident about being starter in front of Drinkwater. Do not forget chemistry between Kante and Drinkwater in 2 men midfield at Leicester.

30 Aug 2017 21:07:40
The club told Matic he was surplus to requirements at the end of the season, hence he was training on his own or with the Kids.
The club had a fee in mind and the club that hit the fee was unfortunately Utd.
Matic was average last year and total crap the year before plus he is 29 and we got young Bakayoko to take his place!

30 Aug 2017 21:11:24
Ed002 has already confirmed that Chelsea do not see Baba in the squad this season. Whether that's changed has not I don't know. But we still don't have a out and out replacement if Alonso gets injured.

Kenedy is off to newcastle. Doubt he'll ever play for us again after the China fiasco.

30 Aug 2017 21:28:59
I agree about Kennedy Adam but Baba could be a needs must sort of player!
The Champs league first stage will be over by the time he is fit but subject to us still being in all comps I can see Baba playing a squad role for the rest of the season.
You never know if he plays well we might keep him or sell him for a higher price!
It's only me thinking out loud!

30 Aug 2017 22:03:00
Antibot don't patronize me. Playing centrebacks as wing backs isn't cover you fool its putting square pegs in round holes. 2 players for every position also creates competition for places not the comfort zone.

30 Aug 2017 22:57:39
We've signed 3 top quality players that will likely be first choices and hopefully be improvements on who they've replaced. And Christensen seems to be staying who I believe if given the chances this year will push Cahill out of the team before the season is out.
Yes we could do with a few more bodies to beef up the squad but the prices this summer have sky rocketed astronomically. £35m for an extremely average AOC (with one year left on his contract) when a few years ago we bought Hazard for that much.
At this point in time we have a very strong first 15 players, and most of our current targets know that they're only being bought to fill in for injuries/ league cup games. It's pretty hard to convince someone to come and sit on the bench for the whole season especially players who would be able to play week in week out at a team a tier below ours.
Last season we managed to survive with just 2 strikers in 3 competitions and Batshuayi only played a tiny amount of minutes overall. So whilst not ideal I'm sure we'd survive an extra 6 games with just two strikers. We definitely do need another CM and ideally another LWB but other than that I personally feel we're well enough covered for the season.
I honestly don't see the need for panic that other posters seem to have. Especially the desire to bring in players like Belotti, as who's going to sit on the bench then out of Belotti and Morata? And if we play two up top, then I guess Hazard, Willian and Pedro all get benched?
The same with Van Dijk: He's very similar to Luiz in style so I'd personally worry if they both played together, which means we're replacing Luiz (who had a stand out year last year) for a defender who's likely going to cost £70m and isn't much of an upgrade on Luiz imo. He's certainly shouldn't be replacing Azpi imo, which would leave replacing Cahill. Now I'm not necessarily Cahills biggest fan, but he was just made our captain this year and does it make any sense to name him captain and then buy a player who's going to take his place in the starting line up 9times out of 10?
AOC, he's had a fairly injury ravaged career so far and apart from the last 6-10 games last season has been completely uninspiring and inconsistent throughout his time at Arsenal to date. A lot of people have said he'll be a better attacking option to Moses but I read the other day that he has something like 15 assists and around 10 goals in roughly 130 premier league appearances for Arsenal. Hardly a great upgrade 😂 Not to mention the fact that he's averaged around 20 games a season, so with those stats he'd end up with around 2 assists and a goal for us and that's who you're sad we've missed out on?!?

30 Aug 2017 23:17:12
The transfer market has changed probably forever. We now have clubs that are owned by countries and clubs that don't have to sell.
We can no longer boss the transfer market and while the owner, club and fans remain ambitious we all have to wake up and smell the coffee.
We have the best manager in the world and some fantastic players and I think we will win the league this season!

30 Aug 2017 23:41:20
Fuser, you are taking a lot of sense. Fantastic post.
