Different types of players if you ask me and I adore both of them but if pushed for an answer I'm going to have to go with Essien, he was a key figure in my favourite Chelsea team ever and the goals vs Arsenal and Barcelona are ones I will never ever forget and I truly believe if it wasn't for injuries at important times in his career he would've been considered as the best in the world. Having said that, Kante is on the way to becoming one of my favourites and if he continues as he has done for three years now he will go down as a great.

I really think Essien has to be one of my all time favourites, but the fact that I’m struggling to pick one maybe suggests I’m thinking Kante.

Essien was amazing but not in makelele's league but kante is almost there my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - I love Essien, he is one of my favourite all-time players. A physical specimen and a half added to good technique but Kante is probably the best player of his type I have ever seen. Essien was a great player, but Kante is a whole level above him. You are very lucky to have had both players playing for your team in recent years.}

Didnt think essien was all that. Was a luxury player. Ballack makelele miles better.

Bobski mate come on Essien a luxury player? Show a little respect to an incredible player. Were you born in 99 like your name suggests? If so I doubt you even remember Makalele at his best.

Should mention that Makelele was one of the greatest midfielders to put on a Chelsea shirt before everyone shoots me down. I don't think Makelele, Essien, Ballack or Kante can be compared however. They all had different roles and played in a different way. They all deserve our respect.
