Ed002 saying that youth are to be given a chance next year is absolutely music to my ears. Chelsea fans have been waiting for this for years. The mix of youngsters and buying players is a winning formula and the reason Liverpool are where they are right now.

Like most chelsea fans I think, we could take losing for the next couple of years (obviously not finishing 10th) but on the grasps of 4th if it meant promoting youth. For to many years experienced players have walked into the side over more deserving younger players. De Bruyne, Lukaku, Bertrand, Ake, Chalobah and many more have missed out. Not all of them would have made it but none of them got an adequate chance. Let’s hope Ed002 is right.

For sure. Short term integrating more of the youth players would make CL a difficult proposition. With the other top 6 clubs looking strong we'd probably have to do with Europa for a season or 2.

But in the long run I think it would set us up for a fantastic team.

I'm not sure that Liverpool is a good example - Alexander-Arnold is their only homegrown player and he only got into the team because injuries forced it.

{Ed001's Note - he never mentioned home grown players and Trent was earmarked for a first team role regardless, it is only the position he plays that was decided by injuries. He was actually a midfielder at youth level and would have been in the first team in midfield but injuries made him a right back to cover a gap and he has stayed there, mostly, ever since. However he has played in midfield when there has been cover at right back, so it is not injuries that forced anything.}

Spot on standard.

Ed001, my point is still a valid one - Liverpool is not a good example of bringing through their 'youngsters' as suggested by Standard. In fact, if Liverpool go on to beat Man City this season, they could be accused of buying the title.

{Ed001's Note - so name one better then? Most clubs, including Chelsea, have a youth team full of players they brought in from other teams. No one produces their own any more. Liverpool have one who properly came through the ranks, so do Man Utd. Chelsea have not even had one since Terry. So you are just picking holes for the sake of it.}
