According to the Corriere Dello Sport in Italy our owner has agreed a deal, in principe, with Zenit for Witsel.
There was interest in Italy for the player, but when the Italian press release a story that doesn't involve an Italian club or player it generally has some substance!

How is he a bad signing when :
1. He hasn't even signed yet.
2. Even if he does hasn't kicked a ball.
3. Is a really decent player and he is a huge step up from the backups we had.

Vidal plays in a prominent team, in a semi-prominent league, so he gets much more publicity. Witsel is an excellent player who would be, in my opinion, a very good signing.
Part of me still thinks he'll end up in Italy but, for reasons stated in the original post, I defo think we are interested.

They're totally different players. Vidal is a box to box, all around worker. He harrasses the opposition and is all over the place. Many fans feel we need someone who can deputise for Matic and play next to him in big games. I think Witsel can do both. Vidal IMO can't deputise for Matic. Yes, he'd do well next to Matic but he can't perform that role. So I'd actually prefer Witsel. I'm a big fan of his and I think he'd be great under Mourinho.

I never said we signed him just said I don't really rate him he plays in Russia he never stood out in World Cup or euros for me so I would think Vidal is way above his level and the better premier league player of he came because of his harassing style were as Witsel looks like a lazy git at times just my opinion don't eat me if ye don't like it lol I just hope Jose improves that position next to matic an who knows Witsel or aranguiz could be the answer time will tell if we sign either

Think Jackson nailed it. Vidals role allows for additional prominence but witsel gives Jose additional flexibility. While Vidal is the better player, bringing in Witsel and integrating RLC would allow the club to move on rami and Mikel while upgrading and adding midfield depth. This was seen with fab and Oscar struggling late in the year as Jose wasn't confident in rotating them with his other options.

Well Magic, Willian played in the Russian league when we signed him and back then he wasn't even in the Brazilian national team. Now he's one of our and Brazil's most important players, so that argument of yours is invalid

I don't see what Witsel can offer more than Ramires to be honest he might be able to use the ball better than rami but rami is quicker and an established pl player were as Witsel could be out of his dept with the pace of pl football he's not a player I'd like to be honest I think Vidal would suit better next to matic but that doesn't matter cause he's off to bayern so maybe aranguiz and rlc will fight it out with matic for them 2 spots I can't believe what a beast matic is since he came back ðŸ‘

I definetly wouldn't say Brazil see Willian as an important player when they didn't start him in any game of the World Cup last year only the 3 rd place play off so my argument is valid plus he seems to be the one we all agree is our weak link going forward he never scores goals he often looks half afraid to take someone on ya. His work rate is exceptional and he defends the wing well but u need your rm attacking defenders and scoring goals

Witsel is better defensively than Ramires. His positional sense is quite good and he's an imposing presence. His passing is also better than a lot of people realise. He often keeps it simple, but I've seen him hit some very good passes. He isn't the most technical dribbler, but he's strong and can use that strength well to break from midfield. Ramires does that as well, but Rami does it with pace. And Witsel also has a pretty good shot (not sure on this last one though).
I'll add to that though that I don't watch Witsel in Russia but I've followed Witsel a bit throughout his career as I'm Belgian and he was a very promising player once in the Belgian League. He'd add a lot to our team and I'd take him over Vidal at this point in time. Vidal isn't the same player he was before his injury IMO.

Sometimes Jackson I think we all agree keeping it simple makes a player look good just take a look at Francis coqeluin for arsenal he got in the team defended well and with the ball at his feet he kept it simple so I see your point and the fact he's a big lad would mean we would have quite a presence in free kicks and corners in the box both defensively and offensive

Witsel is one of the most important players for Belgium NT. His role is even more important than Eden Hazard's. Without Witsel Belgium looks weak.
