I'm of the opinion that regardless of how well stones performs this year for Everton, his price has very little room to grow. While some people will argue that he can grow more learning from terry and jose in being here, I'm certain he would grow more starting every game at Everton. This doesn't even take into account how his arrival would affect the minutes that Zouma (who I feel has a much higher ceiling) would get. To me Zouma has a lot more to gain by refining his game with the help of Jose and Terry than Stones who is already very polished technically. I also think that by waiting there might be more doors that open for instance if Varane isn't primarily a starter I could very easily see him pushing for a move in January to Chelsea where he's comfortable with Mourinho. Overall I just don't understand why the club is so aggressive in going for Stones now when there are a lot of gains to be had if he isn't acquired.

Exactly. If they're willing to go over 30 million for him, then why not go after someone better than him. Otamendi apparently wants a move, we could try for him. Laporte is crazy talented (much more than Stones IMO), try for him. I feel there are so many better options, it's a bit frustrating.

Chelsea and Jose know what they are doing chaps so no need to feel frustrated. Stones learning alongside JT and Cahill and probably playing a fair bit as well will hugely benefit us. He and Zouma are our future along with Christiensen and maybe Kalas. He is English and homegrown and knows the premier league already. He is a fantastic talent and a far better option than Laporte and Otamendi in my opinion ( and Chelsea's ) for that matter. Varanne is not going to happen this season for sure. I actually think JT and Stones might just be the first choice partnership sooner rather than later with Zouma gradually coming in for JT.

It goes without saying we're paying a premium for the fact that he was born in England but as you said I really think the fee were being quoted would make the clubs of the better players think long and hard about selling.

Stones is the best cb prospect in England and if he continues to improve could captain the national team one day so while you both make good points I think Jose and Roman both, after losing Lamps and soon JT, care about having a pivotal England national at Chelsea unlike City who I believe just want to fill their homegrown quota. If Stones doesn't come good for us then I think we'll look to buy Kane.

Hello Guys, I visit frequently, daily. Although I post very rarely, I have to completely agree with t.k. It has never crossed my mind in a situation like this, why not leave Stones at Everton, he will get another full season of experience and like t.k said, the price does not have room to grow. The value of 35-40 million is ridiculous, we have the best back 4 in the Prem, possibly the world, with players like Zouma coming through also we have no reason to panic buy.
As t.k also stated Varane might become more available in coming months.

P.S Sooooo please for Bamford for to get a Hatrick on his debut, regardless of the quality of opposition. Never really appreciated the hype over Bamford, most probably due to my ignorance of lower league football, although hopefully he can prove me wrong this season.
Also I would just like to say thank you to all the supporters that make this page entertaining every day!

Post more often, Thirstywheelz! :-)
The thing with Bamford is that he's very smart in the way he plays. He's not an exceptional athlete (I think?), but very intelligent. That should help him tremendously. And from what I've seen from him, he's a good finisher. Excited to see him at Palace this season, and I hope he can carve out a big role there.
