Hi Eds and posters I hope everyone is well
Just a question or 2 I was wondering how we think our new manager will line up both formation wise and tactically with the players at his disposal bearing in mind they are not his players .
And also do you think the youth players or rather young players we both brought I the window and at our academy too will be integrated in games rather than the loan system
Thank you all for your time and efforts in keeping us informed and entertained.

{Ed001's Note - firstly the formation will be extremely flexible as Potter likes to change within games as the match needs dictate. He uses a back 3 a lot, but is happy to use a 4 as well. Sometimes it will be both at once. With the 3 and 4 interchanging depending on whether you are attacking or defending. Tactically it will always be about getting the ball down and playing it quickly to try and create space to make chances. It is a bit in the middle between Pep and Klopp.

As for youth, Brighton had the highest number of minutes for graduate academies in the Premier League last season. If anyone will give youth a chance at Chelsea it is Potter. You will never have a better chance to finally see what the academy can do, as he will use them if he believes they are good enough. He shows a lot of faith in players that he works with.}

Thank you for your quick response I for one are excited for our new era and generally believe and hope our new owners are going to invest time as well as money in the manager it is like the dawning or a new era and hopefully a dof to come in and work well with them both.

{Ed001's Note - hopefully, it would be nice to see a manager get time to build something long term.}

Thanks Ed, brilliant.

It feels like we are finally going to see a stable football club that is run well and also does well.

{Ed001's Note - I just noticed what I put there, I guess you all understood I meant academy graduates rather than graduate academies! Sorry for not noticing that error.

I would think Boehly is looking for a project that can grow over time and you need stability to do that. I think Roman always had that intention too, but it just never quite happened.}

Ed001, any possible suggestions for the DoF position? Someone mentioned Terry the other day which I assume was just a joke but I believe most the ones we had been linked to over the last year have moved elsewhere. Many thanks.

{Ed001's Note - yeah Ashworth would have been ideal. There isn't really anyone who stands out as an option to be honest. I am not sure I would go with Terry, not seen any signs of him being intelligent enough. It might not be a fair view, it maybe that his accent is hiding his intellect, but he never seems to come across as having that great a knowledge of the game. He seems better suited to coaching.

You have already brought in Macauley, who has been a large part of Potter's success in helping identify the right players. Maybe Matt Crocker from Southampton - their recruitment this summer looks excellent, he seems to have picked just the right young players they needed.}

Matt Crocker seems a decent shout judging by Soton’s business this summer and even the younger players they bought last summer. Do you know how long he’s been there ed001?

{Ed001's Note - since 2019 but he was only promoted to dof either last summer or this one.}

Ah fair I wondered whether he had been responsible for the Tella’s, Redmonds etc.

{Ed001's Note - he was responsible for offloading Redmond at last - to the relief of Saints fans as he is dog muck.}

Ed001, that seals it for me ? I do wonder tho if his skill set is solely on youth/ younger players or if he can target the more established players. Imo Chelsea would ideally sign 1 or 2 established players per season (obvs depending on needs) whilst supplementing with the younger stars as well. Especially since Potter will also be dealing with the bigger ego’s for the first time. Would worry if they were both learning on the job at the same time.

{Ed001's Note - that is the worry is that he might just only have an eye for young talent, when you need someone who is going to buy players to supplement the young players in the form of established quality.}

Ed001, do you see this long term focus come at the expensie of a winning mentatlity? that is my biggest fear.

We as a team always have had tha winning mentality and now i fear that our next barometer would be progress . which could mean being content with not winning silverware.
We could have progress but others could have more/ less progress than us and still win.

what do you think?

{Ed001's Note - no, Potter is desperate to win trophies, it is the next step for his career and the only way he can truly make his mark on the game.}

I also think the results must be good in not too long a time. The fans are too impatience when we are not getting a result.
