Football is not like baseball, it is an intelligent game. That's why football (soccer) never made success in US. Ordinary people in US need something simple for their pleasure resting time, like baseball or American football (simplified type of rugby).

Moneyball doesn't really work in football (soccer).
Brentford success is due to their amazing scouting system and not algorithms and computer programs. And difference in quality between championship player and PL players is not so big.

Is American football simple? It seemed complicated when I've tried to watch it. I couldn't understand why they kept stopping and starting all the time. No flow whatsoever.

Eden, don’t get me started on stopping and starting.

I think it’s about time we got value for money. At the moment I think the average time the ball is in play is something less than 55mins.

This has to be looked at in some way by the authorities.

Fair point Tom, the time wasting now is ridiculous. I don't know why the PL is so against following the world cups model of adding on representative times.

Here there will be 15-20 minutes of play stopped and they will only add 5 minutes. Teams will only stop time wasting if it doesn't actually help them.

But I'm sure I remember American football being another level, they'd throw the ball someone would catch it and then they'd cut to the studio and an ad break!

I wouldn’t want a game lasting as long as some American sports that’s for sure Eden.

My suggestion and I know this will never happen, is that when the ball is out of play for ten seconds the clock is stopped, when there are substitutions the click is stopped and when a music is called onto the pitch the clock is stopped.

If the game lasts an extra 20 mins and as a fan, so what.

Of course TV schedules would be put out but I’m sure they would love the opportunity for more advertising time.
