A question for Ed002 if you have time, would the club look to strike a deal with Atletico for Joao Felix or has that shipped sailed? I know he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but whenever he played for us, he excited me when he received the ball which not many players have done since Eden was at the club.

Thanks in advance and really appreciate all the info you give to us on this page.

Blue_Soldier

{Ed002's Note - Felix has gone already.}

1.) 27 Jun 2023 18:52:07
Sometimes we hype players that we like too much. What a comparism, felix is nothing close to hazard on the ball. Like you said not everyone fav but if pulisic can stay injuries free I would take him over paying over the odd for felix and I hope we give pulisic time again to overgrow his injury plague that I think is imminent. Similar to Robin who was always injured when he was with us but managed to overcome it when he left.
Felix is also a good player but came to us at the worst possible time. So it's possible he could have been better in another season. Unfortunately he's overpriced just like when ATM bought him.

2.) 28 Jun 2023 09:26:00
Thanks for the response ED!

Yes definitely didn’t mean to compare him to Edens level, just that he was one of a few that excited me when he received to ball as he was always trying to do something rather than pass it sideways or back.

I think Pulisic’s time at Chelsea is over unfortunately, I had high hopes for him and when he had that post lockdown purple patch, I thought we had a gem on our hands, unfortunately injuries and not given enough consistent game time, killed his chances. Let’s hope Cristo (Nkunku) can work some magic for us.

3.) 29 Jun 2023 11:14:37
I think ilo has it correct on this. I'd rather give players we already have another shot, rather than buy out of desperation again.

People going crazy that Kepa may start next season as our number 1, but why would we buy, for arguments sake, option 5 only to want to sell them again in a year. I'd rather us not spend frivolously again and what until the correct option comes along.

Pulisic is another one that, if he can stay fit, works for us, IMO. I like his work rate, he's extremely brave in that he'll gladly take a clatter from a keeper when trying to score. He definitely attacks the back post in a way we all hoped Sterling would too. I know his race may have been run with us, but I'd not be upset if he was to stay in the squad.

Hi ED002,

If you have time, are you able to briefly answer what the long term plan is for Malang Sarr?

He gained some great experience with Porto last season in the Champions League.

Do the club/ coach see him as a first team squad player this season, or is it too soon for him.

Thank you for your time and all the recent posts.

Blue_Soldier

{Ed002's Note - Malang Sarr (CB) Fenerbahce want a loan and that seems to be a very good option. The club will continue to watch his progress.}

1.) 13 Jul 2021 11:41:03
Thank you for the info, one to keep an eye on.

Hi ED002,

I have a question about Sancho if you don't mind answering. From what I've read from your previous posts on the site, is that he would be interested in a move to Chelsea or Madrid, but Chelsea will not pay the overall price for him.
Would Chelsea be more willing to purchase Sancho this summer if just the agent fees are lowered? Or is it the price BVB are quoting too high as well? Thank you for the info you provide daily on this site, it makes for good reading.

Blue_Soldier

{Ed002's Note - It is the overall price that is the issue - Chelsea want the asking price reduced some and want the agent fees reduced to perhaps 20% of what they are now. The agent has come back several times with tiny changes - it is not going to happen.}

1.) 08 Jun 2020 19:28:35
Do you see him staying at BVB one more year or perhaps Madrid or even United purchasing him this summer?
Disappointing we couldn't reach a deal for Sancho, what a player he is.

2.) 08 Jun 2020 20:18:19
I have no idea how it will end. There is an issue to force the move this summer.}

3.) 08 Jun 2020 20:25:34
Will certainly be an interesting transfer to keep an eye on. Thanks for the info as always Ed.

16 Jul 2018 21:55:25
If any of the Eds could answer this I would appreciate it.

I saw on the European pages that Morata could be moving away from Chelsea. What club would he go to and why would he move?

I thought he had a decent-ish season considering he was playing through injury and missed a chunk of the season. I would be sad to see him leave without a proper chance to prove himself. If anyone could share some light on this I would appreciate it. Thanks for the info so far.

AC Milan reps were apparently in London trying to get a deal done for him.

Softest club in the league and the oppo all know it. Can’t win a header all game, most unserious club by a mile. Project or not, this is not good enough. You play against Sheff United, you play players who can win headers, Badiashile needs to start, Casadai who wins headers needs to start. Shambles, and I’m fed up with watching it each week. I implore someone to defend this team.

Blue_Soldier

1.) 07 Apr 2024 22:19:20
There is absolutely no way Badiashile deserves to start given his performances since his return from injury.

2.) 07 Apr 2024 23:39:32
I back Tom Badiashille has been 1 of the worst players in a chelsea shirt this season hed be the first fella id drive to the airport this summer with a 1 way flight?
Badiashille
Sanchez
Cucurella
Galagher only because it looks inevitable not that i want to see sold
Silva free sad to see this gem go
Sterling
Broja
Lukaku
Disasi maybe?
Caicedo? ? a horror show of a signing
Enzo another signing who doesn't look like its working out both are still young so haven't given up totally
Mudryk/ Madueke? hard to say either wouldn't be missed but could come back to bite us down the line

Who id buy

Paulinha
Sesko
Diogo Costa
Centre back no idea honestly our options are defenitly dropping on top targets maybe test a bid for de light?

3.) 08 Apr 2024 05:06:23
Poch, I think we will sign Osimhen and maybe the CH from SL. Not sure about any Keepers.

I already gave my list of the potential ten players who will be leaving.

11 Mar 2024 20:54:53
This constant trying to play out from goal kicks is crazy, we are not good enough to do it. I know we have little height up top but just play for 2nd balls, worst case we lose possession around the halfway line and not in our 18 yard box. Another gifted goal for the oppo, I wonder how many goals we have conceded from our own mistakes.

Blue_Soldier

1.) 11 Mar 2024 22:55:00
Kir first goal came from playing out from the back.

13 Dec 2023 22:31:44
With the apparent new contract Osimen is about to sign with a very high release clause (€130m) apparently, does this all but rule out him joining us? It’s a huge outlay for a player who hasn’t played in the league and is coming to a fragile team.

Do we push for Toney or wait to see how the current STs, Nkunku included get on?

Blue_Soldier

1.) 14 Dec 2023 09:48:53
His buy out clause is cheap. hahaha.

2.) 14 Dec 2023 10:36:40
Midtable clubs rules him out.

3.) 15 Dec 2023 15:41:38
Doubt it but the few might.

27 Jul 2023 22:38:05
Putting finances as side as I have no idea about the structure of it, and speaking strictly from a footballing point of view, I do not see a better option currently “available” than Caicedo.

IMO, I believe he gives us the best opportunity to get top 4 next season, giving us better balance in the team and allowing Enzo some freedom to play further up the pitch. It’s still clear from the pre season games, that we are lacking in areas which Caicedo should help with.

Blue_Soldier

1.) 28 Jul 2023 04:35:35
Blue, I think the lad from RM would be better but that would be a long shot.

The lad from Brighton would be my next choice and it looks as if his current club are reluctant to sell at a price that works for us.

I see the very young lad Lavia being mentioned as an alternative. I see him as work in progress.

I hope we teach a compromise with Brighton but from the outside it’s looking unlikely.

2.) 28 Jul 2023 08:55:49
Caicedo is a great player but if the club decides that what Brighton are asking for is too rich for them, there are lots of other options we could approach:

Amadou Onana at Everton
Aurélien Tchouaméni at Real Madrid
Lucas Gourna-Douath at RB Salzburg
Manu Koné at Borussia Mönchengladbach

And the funny thing is, we have been linked with every single one of these players over the last couple of years.

3.) 28 Jul 2023 09:11:19
RBD, I enjoyed your post and information.

My No2 choice would have been Tchoumeni.

The clubs choice is clearly Caicedo. I would rather us pay more for our supposed No1 choice than move onto other choices.

There maybe lots of options but who is the best option? Are the other options better players than Caicedo?

4.) 28 Jul 2023 10:02:30
Zubimendi could be added to that list RBD, although I think he's rejected Barcelona to stay at Sociedad.

5.) 28 Jul 2023 09:15:48
One player that was previously linked was Alvarez from Ajax, @Ed002 has that interest moved on now?

Thanks,

Steve.

{Ed002's Note - Way, way down the list now.}

6.) 28 Jul 2023 10:19:48
Good point EdW - I'm sure there are plenty of other players as well! I know he's a very different player but I think Chukwuemeka is also an option to play deeper.

Tom, I'm not sure it is as black and white as whether the other options are better than Caicedo. If you can get a player who profiles to do 80% of what Caicedo does, for a price that is orders of magnitude less, then what does that enable you to do elsewhere in the squad?

To build a complete hypothetical off of that, if you are able to buy LGD (19 years old, 100 senior appearances, champions league experience) for perhaps 30m, and Caicedo is going to cost you 100m - you could put that 50-70m you have saved into a new GK and cover for RW. You might not have the better single player in midfield, but has the squad itself been markedly improved? I would argue yes, you're only as strong as your weakest link and in my opinion Kepa is a weak link. Then if LGD doesn't end up being good enough, which is eminently possible, you are only on the hook for 30m and you can go after an improvement next time around.

Caicedo is great, really great, but I don't know that he's 100m great and personally I would only really be comfortable spending that much wedge on a defensively minded midfielder if you knew you were getting peak Kante. Players emerge every year, it's not as if he is the only player we will ever be able to buy for this role in the team.

Just my two cents.

7.) 28 Jul 2023 10:38:28
RBD, your analogy of price being in relation to ability is interesting.

If price was a guaranteed correlation of ability life would be a lot easier. If we use the £100m+ deal for Rice as a yardstick as so many do and we pay £50mil for a player is that in the knowledge that he is half as good as Rice. Of course not.

This transfer is in my opinion about two things, Brighton don’t want to sell and the whole world knows we are borderline desperate for a quality DM. That is not a good bargaining position.

I have no idea if Caicedo represents “value” but he is a good player and our clubs No1 DM target. I want the best players for our club.

8.) 28 Jul 2023 10:59:34
I agree with the general principle of what you are saying, Tom, especially wanting the best players for our club. However I don't think it is necessarily about 'value' of a specific plater per se, since the value of a player differs depending on whose point of view you are using. A player can be worth far more to the team they currently play for than what their market value may be.

The point I was trying to get across is less about the fees involved, and more to do with what improves the squad the most. Caicedo is a superb player that fills a huge need in our squad but is there a player who can do what he does, albeit to a slightly lower standard, available for far less money? And if so, can you take the total amount of money available to spend and raise the overall standard of the squad to a higher degree by choosing the cheaper player in this position while improving elsewhere in addition?

On Caicedo specifically, Brighton have their valuation at a reported 100m which is too rich for my taste. He's had 1 great year in the league and what no one seems to be talking about is how at the end of last season he was shifted to right back to accommodate Billy Gilmour, which is ironic in of itself. In a perfect world we would buy him, but I don't think we are making a huge mistake by walking away at this point. 80m seems more than reasonable - Brighton bought him for less than 5m so it represents a sensational bit of business from their end. Of course, they are within their rights to demand whatever they want, I have no problem with that.

9.) 28 Jul 2023 11:20:17
RBD, all transfer fees are in my opinion subjective and that one of the reasons I have little interest in them.

You second point is well made and one I am not qualified to answer. It could well be that any transfer fee for a player would be better directed at alternatives but we could only judge that with the benefit of hindsight.

Your third point touches on the quality of Caicedo as a player. I think he is our best option as a DM, he would not have been my first or second choice. My first choice is now playing for the gooners and it appears RM are very unlikely to sell my second choice.

We can keep going down the club’s preferred list of DM’s but that’s not what I want.

Love Frank as a player and for all he’s done for the club but he is just not at the level required to coach a top club at this time. I understand that Potter needed to go and to relieve his coaching staff but why was Frank brought in? To motivate professional footballers to play football? Players look confused and lost, I really hope they make the right appointment as this is a painful watch.

I’d rather see Frank make a statement and leave out all players who have been told they are not in the clubs plans and play the players who have the right attitude and try to build on it for next season.

Blue_Soldier

1.) 12 Apr 2023 22:15:43
Blue, have you ever considered it might not be all three of our managers this seasons fault?

I’m not happy with the attitude and work ethic of certain players but I didn’t have a big problem with the team Lamps picked.

FFS it’s a quarter final not one of these players should need motivating.

2.) 12 Apr 2023 22:20:13
Blue, we must separate Lampard the player from Lampard the coach. He has been a failure as a coach so far. As I said previously he has been brought in to pick the team and take the training, I don’t think anybody can seriously think he will get the job full-time. Let’s be honest, who else would come in to see out the season. Are you suprised the players are confused, three different coaches in one season. We must get the next appointment right but TBH, I haven’t a clue who I would pick. I will be glad when this season ends.

3.) 12 Apr 2023 22:34:22
True Tom they shouldn’t need to be motivated but these aren’t players with any self belief every player got out played, out fought out classed. I don’t even think real are that good i do think that’s us out we haven’t netted in 6 hrs of football so I don’t think we will do them at Stamford bridge as I think they will net. Just want the season to finish.

4.) 12 Apr 2023 23:07:08
Nib, we a want the season to finish but not if a miracle happens on Tuesday.

I’d be very upset if we sold Kante. A truly special player. He’s intelligent enough to adjust and play the positions Frank wants to play. Would be madness to sell him imo. For me he’s one of those players you don’t sell, even for financial gain. Hope he stays, he will be vital for us.

Before his injury I would have gone for Nkunku, I imagine if Sterling is going to start most of the games, he may take them but he wouldn’t be my choice of takers. Never seen Mudryk take a pen but would be nice for him to rack up some goals this year.

Sad news Drog, Wes can’t catch a break from injuries at the moment, I wonder if that forces us into the CB market and who would we even target?

I am more than confident that Trev will make a great replacement if no one can be identified.

So because it’s Everton we don’t need to play with intensity? And because it’s a low block, we play terribly?

Poor excuses, Liverpool play with intensity against all opposition, so what’s stopping us? Good enough squad to rotate and still bring the same intensity to any game.

On the flip side TomB, Lukaku did not work those CBs at all, I don't recall him winning a single header today, could be wrong, just heard TT hammering him a little about his ball loses and chances missed.

We approached the game all wrong again today for me, too much respect to City again just like at the Bridge. Perhaps TT thought with personnel available we couldn't compete in a different way. City are so well drilled though and I would hate to play against them!
