Oh I totally agree with the bad spending on the wrong players bit but then again so have Man Utd (Kagawa, Buttner, Di Maria etc) and Man City (Otamendi, Mangala, Bony etc)
I thought Baba was a desperation buy, and wasn't he the player Jose had never even seen play?
Honestly it could be a plethora of things causing the expensive misfires, from the head scout not taking things like league suitability into account to feeling pressure to spend big to appease the fans. But we all have plenty of those recently, and just wanted to show that from the unbiased outside view of another club, most would agree if they're honest that you guys have done way better transfer fee wise than the likes of my own Manchester United as we are the yardstick for 'what's the maximum any team will pay' at the minute.

Manchester United fan coming in peace here, but as you've mentioned us in examples I thought I should give you a different perspective
You say spend like we have under Van Gaal, yet even United fans think it was ridiculous. You want the balance back between what Wenger does and what LvG did. Right money but more importantly the right players
Last season you spent 21 million on Pedro stealing him from under Utd's noses. Now he hasn't worked out but you beat us to a transfer there. Season before it was 30 million on Fabregas, 32 million on Costa, 26 million on Cuadrado. Hardly tight purse strings and 2 of the most sought after players in world football
Chelsea's gross spend on players is the highest in the premier league over the last 5 seasons, and net spend is the 3rd highest behind City and Utd. If it wasn't for Woodward and LvG paying silly prices almost as a statement you'd be 2nd in the league for net too
Sorry for the long winded post but from an outside perspective you guys are doing just fine transfer wise, and I'm sure when you actually get your new manager in working for you you'll carry on doing fine.
