Ed reports are coming out that we're looking to sell Reece James this summer. I know he's been injury prone, but he is the club captain. Surely it's not true?

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Reece James (RB) Real Madrid and Bayern Munich maintain an interest. Real Madrid will push for the summer but are also looking to Alexander Arnold. Fitness and injuries may determin his immediate fututre. Real Madrid may want to include a player in any deal.}

1.) 31 Mar 2024 10:09:15
Ed

If we are selling these players, amongst others, surely a swap will not really help with PSR, also any player RM want to include is one they want to get rid of anyway therefore will not be much use to us.

{Ed002's Note - Why obsess about PSR?}

2.) 31 Mar 2024 12:40:08
Oh christ. Can see James leaving and then suddenly getting past his injury woes. If this mediocre chelsea continues we won't be able to hold onto palmer too much longer either.

3.) 31 Mar 2024 12:30:29
Most fans do now ED has it has enormous repercussions on a football club which fans have no control over what so ever.

4.) 31 Mar 2024 13:19:12
Standard,

You need to remember we are a business onto a sporting club.

5.) 31 Mar 2024 13:27:15
Standard It’s a tough situation with James. Ideally he’ll be over the worst of his injuries and can stay and have a long career here at Chelsea, but how long do we wait to see if he’s past his injuries? There’s got to be a point in which we decide we have to just let him go.

Bill1955, seen they’d be willing to offer Rodrygo/ Tchoumeni possibly for TAA, both are good players tbf, hardly Real Madrid scraps.

6.) 31 Mar 2024 13:55:30
Tcoumeni + money would be good deal.

James is phenomenal, but he cannot be relied upon,

7.) 31 Mar 2024 14:16:33
Spot on Bill.

I think James is going to struggle to dislodge Gusto on this season’s performances .

8.) 31 Mar 2024 14:35:26
Gusto is sensational.

9.) 31 Mar 2024 20:33:43
Do we really need tchoumeni now though Matt? Maybe if Gallagher leaves, but we have like 10 CM’s at the club.

10.) 31 Mar 2024 21:31:25
fuser, I would love tcoumeni at our place. He was my No1 choice ahead of the player who playofor the gooners a couple of seasons ago.

I think Gallagher will be leaving.

11.) 01 Apr 2024 10:13:43
Agree Tom, CG will leave in the summer.

12.) 01 Apr 2024 11:51:24
Im just glad we all recognise gusto as a great player and i personally would cash in on james he is injured every season
Gusto is a great signing only 21 i think so his potential is huge.

13.) 01 Apr 2024 21:53:28
James as well.

14.) 02 Apr 2024 06:55:32
Maybe!

16 Jan 2024 07:13:04
Hi Ed,

Hope you're well!

Reports out of Portugal that we're in talks and have possibly even submitted a bid for Viktor Gyokeres. Any truth to this?

Thanks again for the hard work on this site!

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Viktor Gyokeres (S) After only joining in the summer Sporting have no interest in selling but fear a club could simply pay his €100M buy out clause in full and try to persuade him to move. Sporting fear Chelasea may do that and have avoided the subject during discussions over another player and a separate issue.}

1.) 16 Jan 2024 15:01:10
For our sanity I think we should just wait and see if we bring anyone in, lots of names have been mentioned, the latest, Moise Kean who has not scored a goal in about a year now.

Personally I think we should keep going with what we have for the remainder if the season then have a review of our playing staff including loan players coming back.

2.) 16 Jan 2024 22:10:58
Watched YouTube clips of him tonight no nothing about him but he reminds me of Harry kane the way he plays.

3.) 17 Jan 2024 07:18:12
Bill I disagree that we finish the season with what we have even as our attack is not as potent as to secure us tge top 4.
Imo we need improvement especially for a striker as it's been a problem for us to score from so many chances we create every game. A potent goalscorer will push us to the ucl qualification. Though usually difficult in winter window but impossible, I would like to get a prolific striker this window if possible.

4.) 18 Jan 2024 23:47:32
Ed002 with the knowledge you have. Do you see us paying the clause? Or waiting until the summer for Osimhen?

{Ed002's Note - They are not the only options.}

5.) 19 Jan 2024 12:44:14
Look to be the main ones though that we want? Unless we take a risk on gimenez who is coming from a weak league? Who do you think we will/ should get? And will one come in this window? With us wanting to sell Broja we will be light.

29 Aug 2023 23:59:27
Hi Ed,

I know it's incredibly unrealistic, but do Chelsea hold any interest in bringing Musiala back to Chelsea?

Thanks for all the work you've done over thiz transfer window!

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Jamal Musiala (AM/LW) Bayern Munich have no interest in selling the player who spent 8 years at Chelsea although Chelsea will raise the possibility of offering two players plus cash to take JM back.}

1.) 30 Aug 2023 10:02:15
Wow, i am assuming that is chalobah and gallagher or Sterling. Would be amazing if we could do it, do you think there is a genuine chance of it happening?

31 Jul 2022 11:02:26
Hey Ed, hope you're well? Seems like the list of CBs that Chelsea are looking at is dwlinding, out of the targets remaining are you able to share who Chelsea are prefencing? Fofana, Gvardiol, Skriniar, Kimpembe or someone else? I know you don't like to share your views but I'm interested to see who your preference is? Ed01 and others please feel free to add any thoughts. Love the website by the way!

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea would be very happy if it were possible to sign Fofana and Gvardiol but there are a couple of other options.}

1.) 31 Jul 2022 12:14:13
Thanks Ed, both great players but I imagine both very expensive and hard to get. You've mentioned Chelsea would be happy to sign both, is it still the case that Chelsea are looking at 2 CB's? Assuming they're also after a WB and possibly an attacker as well before the window closes? I really appreciate you responding and can't wait for the season to start.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed in terms of intentions but one CB has already been signed.}

2.) 31 Jul 2022 15:45:39
Thanks ed. Good info!

3.) 01 Aug 2022 10:18:35
Thanks Ed, sounds like an interesting few weeks ahead.

03 Jul 2022 12:20:33
Hi Ed, is there any update on the Raphinha deal? Have Barcelona agreed to met Leeds demands? Have me moved onto other targets? Thanks for your help.

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed.}

1.) 03 Jul 2022 12:58:19
Raphinha clearly wants the Barcelona move and is waiting to see if they can make it happen. He hasn't rejected our offer and finds the terms good and we are his 2nd choice. The Spanish media are just reporting a whole load of tosh and it seems they want us to withdraw so that they can get him on the cheap.

We are right not to withdraw the offer and I'm sure our business in terms of looking for an alternative is going fine. If Barcelona want him then the equation is to match our offer or atleast come close to it.

Hi all been a while between drinks but I've been reading with great interest.

Firstly disappointed we didn't get any reinforcements in Jan but not overly surprised given clubs don't want to sell. Ultimately there aren't many moves that we could hand on heart say we needed that player or you could feel like they would have genuinely improved our squad and/ or had a tangible impact on the rest of season without sipping into the funds needed to get our primary targets in the summer. Further this 2 week break means the team can rest and hopefully we get pulisic back which will further help with some of the burden.

Recently I've read a lot of negativity towards some players and Lampard, some of whom were being hailed as the next coming of Drogba, Lampard etc. I think we need to take stock of the situation we have a rookie manager in his first season of managing in the EPL and he is still learning. We have a number of players under the age of 23 who are also in their first season at this level many of whom are leading a number of the stat charts in the division. Yes they're struggling with consistency but many of them are also struggling with the demands of the competing in multiple competitions and the wear on their bodies.

We're in 4th at the moment still in the FA Cup and the last 16 of the champions league, know I'm a realist and I don't expect us to get too much further but maybe this will be the compromise we need to make to give the players some rest and get top 4 and launch properly next season with the players having a full season under their belt and hopefully some WC reinforcements to take some of the burden off them to deliver week in week out.

Tldr let's keep positive and get behind the team to get them home for the rest of the season!

It's been a while since I've posted on here but still read through frequently. Heads up this a long post.

What a tough couple of weeks it's been, the team look tired and the youthful exuberance has started to fade under the pressures of being a top club competing in all competitions.

I want to prefix this by saying I was always against Frank getting the role but have been pleasantly surprised by what he has done given the circumstances. I don't want to say he's outperformed because he knew what the expectations are managing a team like Chelsea irrespective of the factors he inherited.

My observations, we have the makings of a really strong team that can go along way and it finally feels like the transition we've been putting bandaid fixes over for the last few years is actually happening.

ST: Abraham will be our starting striker for the next decade (pending we lock him down) I've been super impressed with what he's done so far. Bat's is a good back up but he just always looks like he's a yard off the pace to me when he plays, it could be argued if he started that wouldn't be the case but he doesn't suit the system to start. A good backup is needed, a prime Anelka would be perfect.

AMF: Pulisic will be good buy, he just needs to muscle up a bit and go looking for the ball so he's more involved. Mount for me is a great player but is looking very tired and this often results in the game passing him by which as number 10 in the way we play can't happen, case in point yesterday against Bournemouth. Willian has been a great servant and his industry can never be faulted but he needs to score and assist more which is why we can upgrade. CHO looks devoid of any confidence and to me looks a liability whenever he gets the ball at the moment which is worrying but has shown nothing to show he deserves to start. Upgrades needed here and possibly a formation change as others have suggested.

CM: Kovacic in my opinion has been our best player besides Abraham this season, he's undroppable at the moment but he isn't one to pick a pass. For this reason Jorginho is key as he's the only one that can and he is able to transition the ball from defence to attack which is something we struggled with yesterday, even more so when he came off. In saying this his lack of pace and lightweight frame mean we are often left short when he's playing the registra role. Kante, I love him he's our only world class player but he just doesn't fit this current formation or style of play, he doesn't have the vision of Jorginho, he doesn't have the dribbling ability of kovacic and with him pushing further up field his biggest strength of shutting down attacks is of no benefit to the team. A really tough one for me, again a formation change to 3 in the middle may be the catalyst. I hope RLC is back soon we're missing his ability to do everything Mount, Jorginho and Kovacic do individually himself. Barkley should be moved on and replaced.

DF: Good to see Rudiger back but he's not going to fix our issues. Zouma has been great but the two of them together make us super predictable for teams who want to counter because both of tjem push up trying to find an opening and get caught out because when there's little movement they try the wonder ball after getting frustrated. Rudiger and Tomori for me are the partnership we need, Tomori is good on the ball and quick. It's a shame Christensen is so lightweight because he would be the perfect partner otherwise. A new commanding and more importantly calming CB is needed. I love Dave and he is our best 1v1 defender but with the way we play currently again he just doesn't fit, we need a FB who can overlap and whip in a dangerous cross and this is his weakest area. A move to CB to partner Rudiger a possible option. Emerson and Alonso are individually what we need in a fullback combined plus more, upgrade urgently needed and ideally in January. Reece will be great but for me his lack of defensive positioning and understanding is currently outweighing his delivery and positivity going forward. With an equal balanced full back on the other side he will be much better.

GK: I do like Kepa and think the ability he has with the ball at his feet is essential to the way we want to play, however I have noticed recently how much his inability to command his box has resulted in the nervousness on set pieces. He needs to get stronger and really take the pressure of the team when balls are whipped into the 6 yard box. For all his faults this was something Cortouis was very good at. Persist with him but get him confident in claiming and/ or dealing with balls into the box.

Overall the foundations are there, some reinforcements a formation tweak and some real competition for positions and we should be right amongst it to get top 4 again to push on next year.

Thoughts welcome?

Good post mate and well laid out I agree and disagree with some. Personally think we can’t win trophies with Jorginho holding as he gets bypassed too often and I’d much rather see a proper holding player sitting with a box to box one side and a creative one the other. It’s just about finding the right balance and we’re abit muddled up at the minute to say the least. I like Mount but he’s a squad player he doesn’t have enough in his game to be a quality 10 or 8 but maybe that might come with time. I do think we need a more creative type there like an David Silva/ Aouar. It would be perfect for RLC but I’m really worried if he’ll come back the same this injury is a big one and he’s struggled a lot anyway with injuries. A midfield three of someone like Kovacic. Lisandro Martinez and Loftus-Cheek would have everything in the balance type I mean. I do agree on Kante as well I don’t know if he’s going to be the right guy going forward. He’s world class in a two man midfield but I’m unsure Lampard wants to play that way.

Agree on Rudiger and Tomori but I would move Christensen on and try for someone like Demiral from Juventus who’s an absolute warrior who Sarri won’t even play. Christensen is a good player just don’t think he’s cut out for the English game I. e Pique.

Kepa I’m not a fan of it’s a real shame Oblak turned us down and I don’t really see Kepa’s ball playing ability atm because he’s giving it away in dangerous areas like Everton and City away. Don’t see the need in a ball playing keeper Cech was never perfect at it and we won loads with him. Just get me a keeper who can make a save like Oblak can. If we do manage to get champions league this year he might come this time. Nevertheless I will continue to back Kepa I just know he’s not a good enough keeper for us.

Batshuayi I don’t rate either he’s got a goal in him but watching him in general play is torture because he can’t pass, run or hold the ball up well. Real don’t seem to keen on Jovic since he’s been there if we were smart we could try and get him on a loan like we did with Kovacic instead of spending then sit down and see where we are 12 months later.

The next two windows I would try to definitely move on:

Kepa (Maybe see if he improves but doubt it)
Christensen
Alonso
Emerson (If Juve offer enough I’d be tempted he’s not much better than Alonso)
Barkley
Willian
Pedro
Giroud
Batshuayi.

Excellent post Ngolos. Most enjoyable and constructive comments.

3.) 15 Dec 2019 10:21:58
Fantastic post Ngolos.

4.) 15 Dec 2019 10:35:21
Your views on our midfield is very balanced and one i agree with 100%. No surprises our winning streak had kovacic/ Jorginho pivot which was vital.

5.) 15 Dec 2019 10:43:30
A prime Anelka is better than Tammy, for me he’s just not clinical enough reminds me of Andy Cole a little needs 6 chances before he scores don’t get me wrong one day all 6will go in but just not there for me, saying that hope he proves me wrong. I like Kepa and think he will be the best in the world at some point but apart for that your post was a brilliant read.

6.) 15 Dec 2019 11:06:59
Nibb66 your point about Tammy is well made and I’ve heard the same from some Villa fans as well but he is learning all the time.

I agree 100% with your view on Kepa but he is going through a poor run as most players do.

7.) 15 Dec 2019 11:20:42
I watched a lot of Villa games last year given that my brother is a Villa fan and he would say the same about Tammy. He is young and hopefully with patience and experience he becomes better.

Let's hope we never have to listen to that commentator again. It's clear he was either a Leicester fan and/ or hated Chelsea. Made it borderline unbearable to listen.

Anyways I'm feeling more confident with the nucleus of the team we have. Atrocious decision making in the second half, combined with some questionable refereeing made it look harder than it should have been. However 3 points away I'll take everyday of the week.

Onwards and upwards!

1.) 10 Sep 2017 08:39:59
I was thinking the same about the commentator. Same as the commentators the other night watching england, dele alli could do no wrong. Same a few years ago with Rooney no matter how much he messed up commentators and pundits never pulled them up.

01 Sep 2017 19:42:46
Hi all, long time reader of the site. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in now the window has closed and after initial disappointment, I've taken stock of the squad.

GK; Swapped a premier league experienced keeper with another and kept Courtois, still very strong here.

DEF: Lost Terry, Ake and sent Zouma on loan (who is looking really strong), replaced them with Rudiger and Christensen both of which have looked more than capable and I would say upgrades on top of what was an already strong core of Dave, Luiz and Cahill.

WB: Added Zappacosta to compete with Moses, Alonso is just getting better so that can only be a plus. Have Kennedy and possibly Baba (who I think will be excellent WB) as well Pedro and Willian if required. Could have done with another player here but all in all solid.

MID: Lost Matic and Chalobah, added Bakayoko and Drinkwater, both of which could be argued as upgrades on who they're replacing, although time will tell. Combine this with IMO the best out and out centre midfielder in the EPL Kante and the best passer in the league Fab and we are looking pretty good.

ATT: Losing Costa and have added Morata who at this stage is still finding his feet but has all the indications that he will be a worthy replacement plus he's a better fit for the team and younger. Batshuayi as depth has flattered to deceive but with get more chances. The 4 of Hazard, Pedro, Willian and Musonda are up there with the best in the league.

Combine this with the fact that most of our rivals all missed out on their own key targets; City: Sanchez, United: Perisic, Liverpool: Van Dijk, Arsenal: Lemar and Spurs at Wembley.

Throw in the Conte factor and I'm quietly optimistic with how the season will play out!

Thoughts?

1.) 01 Sep 2017 19:58:47
Very good post Ngolos. Every point has been well thought through and positive.
The Baba point is very interesting and I like you believe Conte can make him into a first class wing back.
Just depends if he can get match fit before the next transfer window.
If he can prove himself to Conte it could save the club a lot of money!

2.) 01 Sep 2017 20:48:26
Yes, everything is shiny. Lukaku went to United, Llorente went to Spurs, Ox went to
Liverpool, Barkley said he wanted to talk to Spurs, several others snubbed you. You can kid yourselves all you want but something is not right at Chelsea right now. You have replaced layers that left, some may be better, some may not be, I think you'll finish 3rd and Conte's head will explode some time in March.

3.) 01 Sep 2017 21:03:58
I respect your opinion but unfortunately for you, you've caught the dreaded Jose Utd Deluded Arse Syndrome. Commonly known as JUDAS.
There is no known cure but I'm sure your local doctor in Surrey can prescribe something to ease your pain!

4.) 01 Sep 2017 21:10:37
Neither Lukaku nor Llorente rejected us, I'm not sure what you're on about mate, but hey what ever makes you sleep better tonight.

5.) 01 Sep 2017 21:26:19
Well to be fair, it's no secret Lukaku wanted the Chelsea move, but we weren't interested. Llorente wanted to work with Conte again, but our bid wasn't accepted by Swansea so he went to Spurs. Don't believe everything the media tells you.

6.) 01 Sep 2017 21:37:52
Alright AJH,
Bless you mate, we've all been there with Jose tinted specs on. We all know MUFC will improve on 6th from last season, although do you have back up for that dynamic midfield?
CFC however will struggle to improve on last season in the prem as we were champions! Regarding the extra 8 games we will have to play in the champions league compared to last year. well to be fair, if injuries are kept to a minimum. I think we will manage ok.
I personally think we will finish above you in the league.

7.) 01 Sep 2017 23:49:10
Ajh what is your problem
Why your obseession with cfc transfers
Lukaku no bid from chelsea he's a cfc fan tho lol
Llorente no bid from chelsea he's 34 cfc don't sign players over 30 no sell on value herm herm ibra
Ox wanted to play for boyhood club
Now do you want to talk about the players you were linked to by fake media bale didn't james rodriguez didn't happen perisic didn't happen aurier didn't happen morata didn't happen neymar guess what didn't happen even ronaldo was coming back guess what didn't happen
Deadline day you were even linked to sanchez you never guess what happened it didn't happen now
Trot along read your daily blind and stop pestering the top team in england
Manager. cfc reject twice but hey ho you continue to believe the crap you read in the daily brexit.

8.) 02 Sep 2017 11:00:11
Well said Ngolos. As for the mancs and jose, who have they played so far? let's see how the league table looks in a few months time aj.

Hi Ed instead of a list, can you confirm if we are interested in Sterling?

Ngolos Twin

{Ed002's Note - Raheem Sterling (W) At the right price his sale will help the start of a rebuild. He will be available for perhaps £50M but that would need to halve to find a buyer. Could be offered to Spurs. Discussed with Barcelona in respect of a part exchange - but I suspect their interest was fleeting. Arsenal may offer an option as a Pepe replacement but I cannot see the player being interested. Milan would want to offer a player in exchange and have other priorities. Atletico may offer a wildcard solution, and Real Madrid may be interested. His agent will be calling around other clubs who might have a need for such a player such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea, but it is difficult to see either biting with other clear targets already identified - but if either fail with preferred tasrgets - they could make an offer with Tuchel keen on the player. Else he will have to settle for a new contract or run the final year of his down.}

Ed 014 I don't get this argument, yes it's utterly terrible what's happening in Ukraine and Putin can do one, but what has that got to do with Chelsea the football club and the fans? Sanction Roman but don't sanction the club and evryone associated with it.

The club and the fans are being punished for something that they have no control over. Where's this energy for the war in Yemen or the middle east? Or for the Newcastle owners or Everton and Arsenal owners, they're both Russian, shouldn't they be punished too? It all comes off a little hypocritical to me, but hey I'm no expert in geo-political issues just a football fan.

Ngolos Twin

{Ed014's Note - Arsenal are owned by an American and I’m commenting on a fan having more concern about a football club than innocent people being killed by a Russian thug and his cronies.

That football fans suffer the inconvenience of not going to a match pales into insignificance so to hear the whinging about it does my head in.

Simple enough?
