Does anyone have reliable update info. on Costa injury situation? Is he definitely out of Utd game on Sunday? Seems hard as ever to know what to trust in press reports of new injuries, hospital, hamstring, groin etc!

VBS

1.) I expect Costa will play on Sunday.

2.) Thanks for reply IB, hope you're right!

3.) News from Telegraph, Remy did not pass the assessment for fitness. Costa is still struggling with his injury and Schurrle will be the striker for M.U match.

4.) If Schurrle is the striker then bye bye unbeaten record.

5.) Woody89 - why? If (and that is an if) he does play, his style of play would be ideal against the unorganised high-line played by Man Utd. As Manchester United are the home team, they will attack. a counter-attacking unit of Willian/Ramires, Oscar, Schürrle and Hazard have the potential to be devastating. Obviously we'd all love Diego Costa to be fit however we have lots of options available if not.

6.) Jose said that Costa has a small chance of playing in his press conference.

Had a feeling this might happen given TSO and CFC record v Newcastle.

The game should remind us all that Premier League matches can be won and lost by very narrow margins. Mikel (or all people up front) had the chance to head an opener for us second before NU scored. Likewise Hazard hits post second before they get another. In the last ten mins we had numerous chances to equalise (which begs the question of why we didn't escalate pressure earlier/perhaps make a substitution before half time).

Result will be a test of character for squad and give hope to a much improved City (possibly have better squad in depth than we do) and others. Would have helped of course if we had held out at the Etihad, as we should have done.

Many of us have been saying for some time that even if great to have identified core of best team, we will need to go to the wider squad more often to give players game time and rest for likes of EH, O and DC. Wish we had the someone who could take on players on other side from EH, whichever that side is. And, yes, cover for Matic needed.

But we've still got a wonderful team, and should be able to bounce back right away v Hull.

VBS

1.) Agree with you, as hard-working ad Willian is the dude needs to take on defenders. I have nothing to say on the game rubbish happens but let's be honest it's a relief at least we all know we won't go unbeaten just one goal now win the effing league doesn't matter how as long as we are top come the end of May.

2.) Well said

Dear eds or anyone,

Surely the Cech to Gooners rumours cannot be true? Would hate it if they were, and another legend beyond Lampard ended up playing for rival EPL side. But why would he go to a lesser London club --- unless guaranteed number 1 spot 9and would he be?), and why would we sell him to London rival?

Agree with Eli re. Oscar and said so in summer. But one concern is relatively small number of players used thus far in season compared to some sides so possibility of fatigue setting in for likes of Oscar whose work rate is phenomenal. Would hope that both Schurrle and Salah get game time v Maribor. Think Salah because of pace should be able to become pretty useful off the bench against tiring attacks.

Phew. Glad that game's out of the way. Had horrible feeling we might drop points to 2012-13 bogey team.

Hope Schurrle will regain form. Perhaps still suffering from World Cup hangover -- now combined with only irregular play. Salah also v short on playing time. Had wanted us to sign Sanchez and was gutted when AFC did -- just think of accurate interchanges and dribbling all at speed of Hazard and Sanchez combined (with Costa, or indeed Remy and occasionally rejuvinated Drogs lurking in the middle). Ah well, hopefully one of Willian (closest right now), Salah or Schurrle may more consistently impress. What do people think?

VBS

1.) May sound harsh but I don't think any of schurrle, willian or salah are good enough (think salah should be given more time however). I think there are some much better players that we could/should be in for including Sanchez over the summer. I would sell willian and schurrle and go all out for 1 or 2 of reus, isco or Lucas from psg.

2.) @spearce Psk. That's all I have to say. Psk.

3.) Lol was just going to post exact same thing, because Sanchez is such a quality player. Has work Eric of Willian and has an end product

4.) Spearce96
That is harsh, willian is clearly good enough his performances have been excellent. Schurle appears to have lost form, but when he gets back to form is a great player who scores goals. As for Salah he is only 21 who has quality but needs to learn to develope slowly not try so hard

5.) Agree with Andrew - what has Willian done wrong! If Willian can add goals he will be as fine. Yes, Sanchez is an upgrade but we can't have everyone!

6.) 31 Oct 2014 13:47:10
I think willian is doing quite well the only problem is his end product which is poor. I guess this year we can see what else we need to make the team better. Youngsters will comeback from loans maybe few of them will be ready to challenge

Yes, surely he will find his form again. Not sure whether there's anything re. this virus business the press has mentioned (and as reason why he's apparently not in Germany squad)?

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing - he was doing fitness training this morning.}

Obviously thoroughly agree with all said by Jackson and Lampsey_8 here. Ed002 is much admired by all decent folk on this site == proper CFC supporters. You are the/a prime reason why so many came of us came to the site and stayed (though I hasten to add that we of course value contributions of other Eds too!).

Thanks ed 002. I don't think that any genuine CFC supporter and regular on this site would give fouls abuse, but clearly some kind of troll has, what a pity.

Good to see you back Ed002!

Do you know whether Chelsea are still actively pursuing a third striker option for future transfer window (with Drogs not getting any younger etc) and who may be among the contenders at this stage given Destro's not wanting to move to PL? EG is Cavani still one of them?

VBS

{Ed002's Note - I am sorry but I have no intention of providing any information regarding transfer - it leads to foul abuse and I won't tolerate it.}

As have said before, rotation/squad depth will become key in next few months. Brings us back to discussions some of us have had before eg after Shrewsbury game when TSO took of Schurrle and Salah at half time because looked v out of sorts. These are two players who when playing well can offer width and in Salah's case great pace to get in behind defenders. and we need to be able to rest/rotate Hazard/Oscar more than we have done.

So agree with Jackson that if TSO doesn't trust Schurrle to get back to best/Salah enough to give him more game time we will be in trouble unless squad depth added to in January.

And would indeed have likes Luis to have been given some game time yesterday, because he can get in behind defenders and can cross -- and when opposition have 10 men behind ball, full backs are needed to do this. One of our best chances was when Bran was put in in first half. Zabaletta frequently offering this for City. who are clearly still major threat in PL and still probably have bit stronger suqad in depth terms than we do. Just wish they didn't have Frank as well!

I had been wondering along same lines as Aron. Can see Ed 01's point, but I would think a review system at some stage quite likely for major leagues/competitions given that tv audiences can see whole series of wrong decisions each week OR, and this may be more acceptable to those in FA etc, refs should be encouraged to consult off-field official in front on tv monitor -- this as per rugby union --and ask them whether there is any reason to award/not award goal (if suspicion of offside)/penalty/send someone off ie specified match changing decisions. Would at least rule out most blatant injustices or wrong person being sent off as happened in our game v Gooners last season.

My thanks too to all Eds for vast amount of work.
