bluelab, I was answering a post from one of your fellow supporters which is what tends to happen on these types of sites. You came in and gave your opinion, I replied to your comment. Not that I need to justify being on this page but the subject concerns both clubs. Don't see why you are so hostile?
I'm sure that I speak for all Evertonians when I humbly apologise for wasting your time! How rude of us to not let you get what you want because you flashed your cash! Come on man, it's a banter site don't get so angry

CFC, last year you were getting rid of Rom so there is no comparison to be made. Didn't hear RM talk about it in the way you seem to remember though, maybe when we were given the green light that he was available. I never said it was unfair, I said it was disrespectful.

That is one way of looking at it I suppose Spearce. But that is from the fans perspective of the team that wants to buy him. Our stance is from a totally different view point. When we put a bid in for him he was already on the way to sign for Wigan, we matched their bid so we could enter talks. But I totally understand your argument.
From an EFC perspective, the lad signed a 5 year deal and, up until a day before your first offer, he was interviewed saying how happy he was with us. No doubt his head has been turned by your manager and a few players talking about him in the press, which most of us blues found disrespectful and is the reason why we wanted our board not to enter talks with you. The reality of the situation is that we are already 2 CB's down from the summer and we have little time to adequately replace JS before the window closes. If we sold him then we would have to rely on youth and that is far from ideal, especially since RM is under the microscope after a bad season last year. Selling one of our top young players would compound that and leave us fighting at the wrong end of the table imo. If he has a good season then he will have a few clubs sniffing round him in the summer, you will just have to fight it out with them come the end of the season!

Bluelab, not sure there is any truth in trying to do Barnsley out of 15%. If, and it is a big if, Stones leaves us I'm sure we will honour the agreement in place.
I think Chelsea have backed us into a corner and been a bit underhand with their pursuit of the lad. The day before your first bid he was interviewed saying how happy he is with us. He will be happy once again, if he stays, when this all blows over. RM has put his neck on the line by saying any request will be rejected and that he is not for sale. If the board don't back him on this then he may walk, I can't see them letting that happen. If he continues to progress this season then he will have more than one option come the summer, an auction would be more attractive to our board believe me! The fact that is little time left in the window, coupled with not yet replacing the two CB's we lost in the summer, may shelve this deal for now. I think we will see it dragging to the next window.
With regards to RM's comment on money, with the amount of cash the tv rights generate, clubs like us don't have to bow down to the sheiks or the oligarchs of this world as much. We can turn down obscene offers for players if we feel the player is important enough.

I don't think it really matters too much for a club to come out and say a certain player is not for sale. If they keep knocking back bids then surely the other party will get the message in the end? As an Evertonian, I would probably prefer the manager or club official to say those words, if only to clarify the situation. But every player has a price, especially those playing for a team that doesn't have your cash reserves, and I expect Stones will be hot property come the end of this season. I think he will have a few clubs chasing his signature so it would be stupid to haggle with just one club. With him being home grown, under contract until 2019 and the fact that he is a very good player with bags of potential, we won't sell him on the cheap. I may be wrong but I think he will stay with us for another season, I hope so anyway!
