I've been a season ticket holder for well over fifty years and today my season ticket renewal form arrived and it set me to thinking about should I sign up again for another season.

My health is an issue but the reason I'm hesitant has nothing to do with health, it's about the whole match experience.

Over the last few seasons the atmosphere in the ground is generally no longer as boisterous as it used to be.

Our performances haven't helped but it's not that that irks as I've had very, very, low times with my beloved team.

I'm not sure why but for the first time, I now feel as if I am no longer part of the club!

I wonder if other fans feel something similar?

The few games I’ve been to this season I’d agree with. Away support is better but usually overshadowed by morons over stepping the mark with u acceptable chants. Plus regarding performances, not a lot of grit and fight in the current team, conte and Jose would have players fired up.

I agree about the atmosphere, every time I go now it gets worse by the week. Obviously we get up for bigger games but even then there’s large periods of silence. Jorginho gets booed a lot too and as poor as he can be that’s not really on. The F*ck Sarriball chants too made the atmosphere not a good one around the club.

I really do appreciate you guys responding to my post.

I remember people/ fans being critical of Utd fans becoming prawn sandwich supporters. I fear we are becoming so arrogant with success we forget our recent history and become equally as arrogant.

I LOVE my BLUES but I crave some humble but vocal passion.

I do think the atmosphere would improve if we brought our home-grown youth into the team - too many of our recent buys seem to be here just for the money.

It’s not arrogance at all that is setting the tone at SB. It’s the lack of relationship between the club and it’s loyal fan base. It’s the path the club are choosing to go. It’s frustrating that the owner has not been to a game since last year due to his Visa issues, but he hasn’t even been seen in Europe when we’ve played away. The club needs more football brained people on the board and with the rumoured Cech incoming (not sure how true that Ian ed002) that can only be a good thing. The atmosphere at Chelsea has always been crap, except for the champions league nights or the bigger games. That’s just how it’s always been.

TomB I am a home and away season ticket holder. My first game was with my Dad back in 1982 and like you, I have seen the very lows and the ultimate highs. I completely agree that the atmosphere around the ground and amongst the supporters has changed dramatically in a very short space of time.

The atmosphere that you used to get on a Champions League night is a distant memory. The feeling of confidence and that anything is possible is long gone. The team has lost its identity and the players that we have in the team now don't seem to have that same single minded will to win and dominate other teams. We have seen legends and winners leave the club or retire and their replacements have been able to fill their boots.

The disconnect between the club and the match going supporters that I know (I make that differentiation as I don't want to claim that I speak for anyone else) started with the Goodison sacking of Carlo, got worse with the sacking of Robbie and was further heightened with short term appointment of Benitez. Regardless of the rights or wrongs of these decisions, this started to create a divide between the match going supporters and the club. This distance has manifested itself in the lethargy we now see at games. Yes, it waxes and wanes. For example, some of the games under Conte were fantastic but then it always falls back to the disenchantment that we are now experiencing on a more regular basis.

The marketing team are also regularly missing the mark. Need I say any more than 'Expect Thrilling' and 'Thrilling Since 1905'? It's cringeworthy and at times incredibly patronising.

When you add to this that we have no idea of what Roman’s intentions are and that he has been increasingly absent from games even before the whole visa issue then you have a cocktail of disenchantment, alienation and frustration.

I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life with Chelsea. I’ve been up and down the country and all over Europe. Wembley, Bolton, Munich and Amsterdam are scorched into my memory and I’m lucky that I was there for all of them. The sad thing is I think we have now seen the best of it and unless major changes happen, the club is moving in a direction that whether deliberately or not is increasingly alienating a lot of the current match going supporters.

Adam, to some extent I agree with your post.

The club has IMO a responsibility for any relationship with the fans.

I have answered so many Club questionnaires and seen NO changes. The latest was about standing areas and away fans and the club has given zero feedback but that’s pretty standard behaviour for our club.

Fantastic post Titan and I agree with everything you have said.
It’s all become quite sad really.
