I've seen more energy in ten minutes from Lamptey than what I've seen from Alonso, Emerson and Azpilicueta all season. He maybe young but he's a proper full back and energetic. Why can't we do the same with Maatsen on the left because it's a bit of a problem position right now!

Mate we were on front foot, there is where James is stronf too. But let's see when he needs to defend.

Also he came with fresh legs against tired opponents.

All my fellow posters know how highly I’ve rated Lamptey but as he signed a new contract?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

He wants to leave, I’m sure ed has mention him before saying his going?

29 Dec 2019 15:58:01
I'm sure one of the Ed's said a while back he won't be signing a new deal and his deal runs out June 2020.

29 Dec 2019 16:10:51
That’s a shame, he has always looked a talent.

29 Dec 2019 16:16:57
Maybe it might change if he is going to get game time.

29 Dec 2019 16:18:57
Well that's a real shame, because he looked like an absolute boss for us today!
Especially since clubs - as far as I know? - can talk with players 6 months prior to the expiration date of the player's contract. Perhaps him making his debut one month ago and getting some playing time after could have made him want to stay?
At least, I hope that he might change his mind - thought he looked really good today!

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not going to pander to players. If he doesn't want to sign a new contract he can see what other options there are.}

Very interesting Ed. Thanks for your insight.

Don't really know the word pander, but after looking it up in the dictionary, pandering him is definitely not what I would want the club to do, assuming that I have understood the word correctly! (I assume pandering as in playing with him only to make him sign and then stop using him again? ) - I just thought he played really well, and might deserve to get a bit more game time!

{Ed002's Note - It means to indulge.}

Lamptey did look good, but as Ed said if Lamptey wants to see what other options are available, then there's little the club can do. You shouldn't start playing players because they threaten to leave or whatever. It should always be based on merit.

That said, last season it looked like Castillo would leave too, but then suddenly in June (I think it was June) he decided to sign on at Chelsea after all. It's not over until it's happened, but I'd understand him looking elsewhere, especially with Reece also playing right back and only being a year older or so.

Good points Jackson but he has played out wide as well.

29 Dec 2019 17:05:31
I agree Jackson, and I did not mean that we should use him and be taken hostage! All I meant was that perhaps his performance warrants more playing time, and that him playing a few more games might change his mind!
