Hi ed001 love your opinions on players.

So could you give me your opinion on Declan rice as a player and also if you think he would fit in the chelsea team?

{Ed001's Note - personally I really like Declan Rice, he is maturing into a top class midfielder who could be absolutely sensational alongside Kante imo. Rice has energy, workrate, passing range, vision and can score goals, when given the opportunity to get forward. The arrival of Soucek to work with him has transformed West Ham and given him more freedom to play. While it won't fix Chelsea's lack of a top class keeper, it would be a big step forward towards a title win to have him there covering the back four.}

Nice read ed001.

In your opinion do you think Chelsea will move for Rice this summer?

{Ed001's Note - no. I think it might be a move too many if they do. All those players have to learn to play together and you could end up too far behind to mount a decent challenge by the time they do if you buy many more! I personally think all you need to do now is get a keeper. Maybe I am wrong, but it just seems the speculation is because he is a Chelsea fan who has made no secret of his desire to return to the club and is often seen pictured with friends who play for you.}

Very true Ed001; A Declan Rice (or Denis Zakaria) alongside Kante is what Chelsea needs. A CDM/ CM trio of Kante, Kovacic and Rice will take Chelsea right to the top. And of course a new goal keeper too.

{Ed001's Note - I do agree, but buying too many can be very disruptive.}

Hi ed001 absolutely agree with your thoughts. But problem is we need too many changes owing to players moving on ( Willian, Pedro etc) or too many bad players ( kepa, rudiger, christensen, Emerson) etc. I understand we may run risk of being in shoes of fulham. But it's something I think we should take this season to challenge for top honours.

{Ed001's Note - that is the problem. You need to make lots of changes but too many can end up making things worse for a while.}

I agree Ed. I actually think that's part of the Silva thinking. Get him in for a season and then go for Rice next season. West Ham have just made him Captain so I doubt he moves in this window.

Just a keeper for us now and that should push us a lot closer to the top 2.

{Ed001's Note - I think Silva is a clever move, you have lots of good, young defenders in need of guidance and he could be the man to provide it.}

Thanks ed001 as always great info.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

I understand what you say Ed001, but I think getting Rice now would add a dimension to both our attack and defence that we really really need right now. I think we will go for him this window.

{Ed001's Note - you don't think Ampadu could be the answer then? Someone mentioned him a minute ago, I admit I had forgotten about him before they brought him up. I think it was Ed002 that told me Chelsea are seeing more as a midfielder now, though I could be wrong on who it was that said it. However he would be very well suited to that holding role allowing Kante to do what he does and Havertz all the freedom in the world to destroy.}

I actually rate Amps very highly Ed001. But the thing with him is that he doesn't have the physicality of Rice, something we lack very much in our squad right now. Also, our midfield is too crowded at the moment and with Gilmour shining last season, I think he's going to have a hard time getting into the first team and playing regularly. He might be an asset in defence but again he doesn't have the height to be a dominant force.
The only way he can stay and have a chance at playing regularly is if we sold Kanté and a defender. If we did that, he would have plenty of minutes, even if we sign Rice.
It would have been wonderful if he was with us last season. Could have been a really good addition.

Agree Ed. Too many changes would not be good. Would be happy if we now just focused on a GK. Rice would be immense, but i think like has already been said on here, he may well be one for next summer. Really like the sound of Ampadu in the DM position next to either Kante or Kovacic, with Havertz or Mount being aloud to roam behind the front 3. However I do think Mount may well be used on the left of a front 3 rotating with the other wingers.

Ed, if one of our CB's is to leave this summer, who do you think it would be? I feel it might be Christensen as he seems to have failed to progress this season, unlike Zouma who has been steady and agent Rudiger must surely be up for a recruitment bonus 😀.

{Ed001's Note - Christensen does seem the most likely as Silva is such a similar style player. Hard to see both playing together.}

If I was in charge I’d leave Rice for a season and spend that £80m on Oblak instead. Have Ampadu get game time and he could be our answer.

With who we could potentially sell CB wise, both Rudiger and Christensen have only 2 years left on their contracts, so I could see either of them go, although having now signed half the German national team I can’t see it being Rudiger 😂 Zouma provably has the most interest though and get the highest fee so might be him to balance the books a bit.
