Quite a few factors I feel we shouldn’t leave out:

# Chelsea has a very suspect defence, hence we need to consider the fact that the defensive stats might not change so or drastically (even though we have signed Chilwell and Thiago Silva) . One could also say that a very good attack is a defensive shield (hence a rhythm has to be struck too in our attack) .

# Yes: all 20 EPL esp the top six teams are challenging for the title, but are we 'realistically' challenging to ‘win’ the title this season or are we building a team that will transit to win the title next season?

# Another factor I feel we shouldn't neglect is that the competition will be more intense and teams are fortifying- even the ones that have depth already for instance:
* Manchester United has added Van De Beek who is a very good player.
* Liverpool the strong Champions seriously looking to add Thiago Alcantara, whom by every standard is a top top midfielder.
* Arsenal has Aouar/ Partey (both of whom are top players) seriously in their sight.
* Everton isn’t keeping a watching brief by adding Allan, James Rodriguez and maybe Doucoure could join.
* Manchester City looking to add Koulibaly even with all the quality they have in their possession.
etc.

Being practical ‘for now’; I would say if we decide to go with Ampadu, Kante and Kovacic as CDM/ CM (and a good goal keeper) for the season, I feel we ‘MIGHT’ not win the league but we could mount a good challenge which could see us finish in a top 4 position (but things could change if Ampadu steps up big time like he performs in his national team- Wales) . On the other hand, I am sure that if we go with Rice (or Denis Zakaria), Kante, Kovacic as CDM/ CM (and a good goal keeper) for this season, Chelsea will mount a very serious challenge and could possibly win the league even with our defence being suspect; but in such a scenario, what happens to Ampadu (whom could have the potential of a nuclear bomb)? I have to say that it could cause quite a headache but I guess a lot can still happen as the season progresses- whether we stick with Ampadu (that has great potential) or decide to go with Declan Rice (that is so ripe) .

The distance from the eventual winners will be largely determined by the tactical approach and personnel the manager employs.
We will be better with Tiago organising the back 4 and a new goalkeeper without doubt but replicating a situation of no holding player will leave us open to counter attacks again.
The attacking talent we have now is exceptional but its beating teams like Arsenal who have a shrewd manager and an ability to counter attack that is the challenge.
Hopefully the management team has reflected on last season and we will see a more tactically astute approach this season.
I don't expect us to challenge seriously for the title until the defensive side of our game is considerably better. We need another grade A CB/ Goalkeeper and holding midfield player plus the correct tactics for that to be the case.
My guess is 2/ 3 years with top 4 being the goal this season.

In other words Turkey; you are in support a move for Declan Rice.

Tactical approach, personnel the coach employs are all singing in Declan Rice’s favour. 😰 being a manager is really not an easy job: a lot of resources to control.

Yes I always have been as he would give a different dynamic to the midfield that we really need.
In addition it gives extra height at set pieces and some more leadership in the group.
My pick would be Kante and Rice in midfield.

On a second thought, if it was easy, I think Ampadu can be drafted into centre back position (a position which he’s really showing great promise playing in) sell Christensen or/ and Rudiger; buy Declan Rice and sell Jorginho, Ross Barkley. I think we have seen what Rudiger, Christensen, Barkley and Jorginho can offer Chelsea (they are all good players that will definitely flourish elsewhere but they don’t seem to fit the current Chelsea system) .
