Watching the England game, Declan Rice, don't make me laugh. watched the Italy game last night, Jorginho was fantastic. different gravy. Just my opinion but I really hope we steer well clear of Rice, over rated because he is English. And a few muppets want to sell Kante and replace him with Rice! beggars belief really. 😁.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair international football is a totally different game, much slower and more suited to the sluggish than the Prem. Not just that, but this is still pre-season and most of the players are not fit yet as it is a shortened one. You are calling others names when you are making an assessment on one out of context match. Rice is playing for England under a complete moron of a coach, while Italy have been looking strong, not a fair comparison at all.}

Why are you judging him in an international match and not the PL G8?
He was outstanding for West Ham last season and played his first competitive match against Iceland.
Plenty of players can look good on an international stage but struggle in the PL and sometimes vice versa.

Sooner Southgate goes the better. The line-up today was horrible and ever since he's been appointed they've gradually gotten worse along with the football we play. Living off a fortunate world cup run where we crumbled as soon as we played a above average team.

I've not been a fan of Rice. I just don't think he is required in midfield especially if we have Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic.

As for Jorginho when his on it then his a game changer as he can control the tempo of the game. Yesterday he was red hot and he controlled the game against a very good Dutch side. However, there are times his not on it of course. J5's high is much higher than Rice's high in my opinion.

I think we should sign Mendy and then wrap the window up and just focus on sales.

Rice just missed 4 games in 3 consecutive seasons! He is a warrior and he has Chelsea in his veins. He is one of the best DMs in PL and he is rated very highly by Lamps and everyone at Chelsea. We will get him.

09 Sep 2020 07:24:22
He can't play in tight spaces. That's 100% clear and is a must for any midfield player in the modern game.

He'd be better off reverting back to a defender and mastering that position.

09 Sep 2020 09:49:09
100% agree there Dan.

09 Sep 2020 10:17:11
That's one area of the game Kova is blessed. Any youngsters should watch him on the ball.

09 Sep 2020 11:22:00
Well Dan how would you characterise Jordan Henderson skill set?
This is the player who has captained Liverpool to success in both domestic and European competitions.

09 Sep 2020 12:51:09
I know who he is, I've watched him pass sideways and backwards enough for England.

He's great in a 3 for Liverpool. Credit Klopp and the system for getting the best out of him.

09 Sep 2020 14:46:12
So he wouldn't fit your requirement obviously.
Has it occurred to you that creating a winning side isn't necessarily about just having the best technical players?
The PL requires a mix of power, technique and character and we have been lacking a strong spine for a number of years.
Rice is quite capable of becoming our equivalent to Henderson.

Spot on Turvey. He is a very talented player, he can play both DM and CB and he has the right character and attitude to be a leader at Chelsea. He can play in a 2 man pivot with Kanté and Kova. Can't understand the negative comments tbh. He is certainly better than Hendo. It would be buzzing to have him.

09 Sep 2020 16:28:07
Turvey, The last person we signed that fitted your narrative of a midfielder was Bakayoko.

There was no point in previous comments where I questioned his talent. I just pointed out that he can't play in tight spaces. If you'd asked me would I sign him as a CB, yeah 100% I'll go fetch him myself.

As a DM, why? We've got the best in the world in Kante. So you'd be signing Rice to sit on the bench. Kova just got player of the year and is a natural box to box that plays in the pivot next to the DM, so he ain't taking his place.

Not sure what Kante and Kova did to you Ash but let it go mate, I'm sure they have.

09 Sep 2020 18:01:46
Bakayoko came from a different league which is always a gamble and he is a box to box player.
Neither Kante or Kova are played as DM players currently and are not particularly suited to the role.
Rice has flourished in the PL already as a DM and has all the characteristics we need and is only 21.
It not only would give us a DM immediately but in time a CB as well.
We need our version of Fernandinho which means a strong player with height.
If we sign him in 2 years he will be Captain.

We're not going to get through to supporters on this site who have their Rice blinkers on or Kante/ Kova out agenda.

If Kante doesn't play DM that's the coaches fault and the system but he is by some distance the best DM in the world.

Mark my words, despite the money spent and superstars signed our most important player will be Kante. There's a reason we struggled so much last season and that's because he was out for most of it. We've been so lucky since he came, covering the defence.

Let's play Christensen at DM, he meets your requirements of being tall. He's a CB that can play there, just like Rice. Problem solved right. come on man listen to yourself, "Kante isn't suited to DM, doesn't have the characteristics". do you watch football?

09 Sep 2020 20:19:38
Dan I have to side with your argument 100%, I couldn't have said it better. If your going to play Rice as a CB then fair enough, however, I can't see how he plays ahead of Kante or Kovacic who are superior midfielders. Im pretty sure if he is signed it will be for defensive cover anyway and in some cases to cover our midfield when required.

In my opinion, there is nobody in world football that comes near Kante (facts), described by many that when his on the pitch it feels like we have 12 players. Kovacic was our player of the season last term. He was absolutely phenomenal. He can pass, he can dribble (excellent), he can drive forward with the ball and he is defensively just as good.

Am I missing something here? How does Rice replace Kante or Kovacic in midfield? What has he got that the above lack? Definitely can deputise or provide rotation 100% though. Majority, maybe 90% of the fanbase will agree with a pivot of Kante/ Kovacic.

People are very easy to forget the talents of Kante simply because he had a season full of injuries. Don't doubt a Kante cause he will only prove you wrong.

Rice as a CB is a different topic.
