Getting ready for pelters
I thought we were shocking last nighy
First half didn't create 1 chance and our passing was woeful
Second half wasn't much better
Yes I want to be Mr positive but that was awful we got out of jail with a pen a wonder strike and a lucky deflection other than that we didn't create anything in open play
Defence looked as shaky as an alcoholic with dts on a waltzer
Every corner we look so bad and kepa isn't good enough I'm afraid flapping like a albatross in a gale everytime he comes out for a crosd
Werner is a bright point his runs off the ball are brilliant
James kante zouma were good rest were
Woeful rlc was shocking he looked like he'd never played before
Havertz obviously needs time
Mount very hard working but need pulisic creativity
Say what you want but that's the truth about last night's matc I know it was first game but

C minus much improvement needed probably beat Liverpool 4 nil now lol
Jorginho passing in first half was awful
Christensen I don't get this guy at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Christensen and Zouma had excellent games also having Kant back makes such a difference.

Werner looks good but Havertz looked in shock to me but I have no doubt he will be a top player once he picks up the pace of the Premiership.

Gianfranco, it’s all about saying it as you see it but we all see things differently.

One thing I did notice was how much space Kante fit when James went into midfield. Having a solid sitting DM certainly looked good. That is not a criticism of Jorginho as I don’t see him as that sort of player.

Lots more work to do and I would rather be playing the Scousers in a months time but bring them on. I think we can turn them over, no problems.

Its the 1st game of the season, players are unfit given the lack of pre-season. I'll take the 3 points because last season we would have dropped all 3.

I agree some players will have to step up i. e. RLC, Mount, Alonso and Christensen because there place in the team is under immediate danger. RLC is of concern, I love the guy but I'm starting to think when he will start another game 😒.

Personally don’t think we were that bad. The defence dealt with pretty much everything apart from their goal where the player should’ve been closed down quicker. We got a bit lucky but that’s football. We’ve got 3/ 4 more faces to introduce to the team and Havertz/ Werner were playing their first matches. Factor in no pre season as well. Should just be happy with the 3 points, that may have been a game we’d lose last season.

Werner obviously v impressive and Kante outstanding. I think Kovacic coming back in should improve us in midfield, which is where we generally did well last season getting tons of possession. Havertz needs time, and is probably more AM than a winger. Kepa looking so fragile at corners/ set pieces in general and long shots. Mendy will surely be an upgrade (though I do feel for Kepa, and he remains a v good short range shot stopper! ) . Chilwell should bring extra pace, and hopefully steadiness, at LB; though Alonso trying hard, and not too bad, was constantly skinned by (hugely impressive coming forward) Lamptey.

I think Werner needed more help up front last night, and may be anyway at his best coming in from the left with OG or TA as central striker distracting oppositions CBs. Havertz behind as a number 10 type. But Pulisic is a natural left-winger too. Can he play on the right as well, or is other option for him AM, apart from TW playing as central striker?

Was concerned that Pulsisc had further injury set back in training. He does seem to have had quite a lot of problems with muscle injuries over last few seasons (if you look up his injury record, but perhaps this is misleading, factors not properly explained, I don't know), clearly another one now - over played in those packed games after restart perhaps - just pray this is not going to be constant problem/ he is well managed here.

We also must hope that CHO becomes a threatening attacker on the right wing. He would surely need to be given more starts to see if he can get there, and quickly. As said, am not sure if Havertz best position is as winger. I still think we should have given Willian the 3 year contract he wanted, we look a tad short on winger back up as is (and for first time for a while have three good strikers), and Willian - for all his detractors on here - remains at his best a world class talent with great work rate. He may just make the difference for AFC top 4 chances this season, and that would be depressing!

Will banish that thought though and focus on prospect of an exciting season watching our predominantly young side begin to gel and improve.

A bit unfair to Cristensen who I thought had a good game.

Champions always somehow manage to win when not playing well.

Pleased with the three points and the performances of Reece, Timo and N'Golo - but here come the negative. For how long are we going to put up with RLC? The man is far too lazy and the lack of concentration when he could have put Timo through on goal was criminal. I'm sorry to say that I have lost faith in him ever reaching the standards required.

RLC was very poor last night, but we have seen what he was capable of in the past. The question is can he get back to anything near his best?

I do not know how he is training, and presumably Frank picked him because he though looked ok there, but when on the pitch he seemed slow (am sure this is not innate laziness! ) perhaps because of all his injury problems and those problems are weighing on him mentally as well as physically. The trouble is that we cannot afford to carry a player - and risk losing points - if in this shape. What to do? In the old days his route back could have been through regular games in the reserves -- effectively 2nd XI games - until match fitness as well as confidence (hopefully) fully returned. Perhaps he needs more games for the Under-23 side as an older but 'coming back from [long term] injury' player? Yet that was presumably what was tried, and a big step up to EPL pace etc.

Do hope he can get back to his best, but Eds have mentioned his ongoing and probably permanent back problem/ weakness, then he had that bad injury in stupid match in USA before UEFA cup final. Yesterday, and in most of the appearances after restart, he has looked only a shadow as yet of his old self. Strength to him.

Did everyone expect all out players to be perfect last night?

Lack of match fitness was clearly evident, and that's fine considering the short turnaround time between last and this season, the lack of friendlies and the stupid international break!

Writing players off based on one set on 90 minutes is ridiculous.

With some impressive performances by some players, notably Kante, Werner, James and Mount - And in my opinion, both Zouma and Christensen, we ended up with 3 points, which is most important, especially as the team is still gelling.

And to address the RLC minutes, man was started up beside Werner, where he's not really going to affect the game the way we are used to. Frank used last night to get minutes in the legs on RLC and Havertz, (who just showed glimpses of what he might add) and it will help us in the coming weeks.

I'd like to add an honorable mention for Barkley who settled us down really well when he came on.
