Gary Neville really stoked the fires with Loftus-Cheek. Claiming that he'd had his opportunities at Chelsea and waisted them. I sometimes wonder if Sky puts pressure of these pundits to be controversial.

Loftus-Cheek goes to Palace on loan, stars for them and gets an England call up. Returns to the Chelsea team and, other than Hazard, is probably our best offensive player that season. Then he ruptures his Achilles tendon and misses 90% of last season, when he returns his game time is disrupted by C.V.. Now he's played one game at the start of this season without any real pre-season.

When's he had his opportunities? End of last season? First game of this season? Or the vast majority of the season before when he was consistently playing?

Spot on J. The question though is how to give him that game time if it may -- absolutely understandably -- take quite some time for him to get back to his best, which was superb season before last as you suggest. Can we afford for this to be in the first team right now, given how out of sorts he looked v Brighton? Or would it make more sense for him to get far more continual game time playing eg as one of the 'still recovering from injury/ needs further recuperation' with under-23 side for a month or so say? Or a six month loan again (but where to)? Am sure that all of us would want RLC to be given further chance to make full recovery, but the question is whether we can afford to let that happen yet in the first team if he is really still recovering from injury/ tentative because of this and ongoing back problems? Lots of questions, and I'm not sure I have the answers!

As you say, RLC was vital for both our third place in the PL and for our victory in the EL that season. Quite comfortably our second best player offensively. He was on the path to becoming a really, REALLY good player.
Perhaps he's still on the path, perhaps he'll never become the player we hoped at some point. But to say that he's wasted his opportunities here is just wrong.
He's already at this point of his career probably had as much bad luck in regards to injuries as other players have their entire career!
He might have had a really bad game the other day, but give the man a chance to prove that he's still got it, for God's sake.

I agree with the above posts from J, JBS and Emil.

Let’s give Ruben a chance to get back playing on a regular basis, if there is such a thing as regular basis this season.

I think the best thing for Loftus Cheek at this time or stage is to go on loan. He needs somewhere he’ll be given a steady game time. I think Leeds United won’t be bad for him. Bielsa looks like a manager that could really do some good with him.

Even if we wanted to sell, it is unlikely that RLC would pass a medical according to what Eds have said.

I thought about hi potentially going on loan, but for what purpose. He certainly doesn't have anything to prove as far as his quality is concerned. He just needs to be eased back into form, without silly pressure.

A lot of the frustration and why patience is running out for RLC is because his fitness, and I know it’s not his fault but from a clubs point of view his ether injured or not match fit, usually one or the other, pretty hard to rely on him,

This is true Matt, his injuries are the hindrance, and if Gallagher has a good loan in the Prem then difficult decisions will need to be made.
