The fact we debate week in week out our formation and starting eleven is a massive sign that none of us know like frank and Jody who or what our best eleven is, after a year we still don't know,

Matt and other posters who understandably want a so called settled team.

I want a settled keeper and I assume that will be Mendy.

All other positions in what will be a very demanding season will be rotated. Maybe because of form, tiredness or injury. Also I guess Kepa or WC will play in all domestic cup competitions.

The only major issue for me is who plays next to Kante in the so called “double pivot” or do we find an alternative to the “double pivot” and play a Makelele type player, if one exists.

Our squad is generally top quality, Lamps will use it. That doesn’t mean I will be happy to see Alonso playing instead of Chilwell but it’s going to happen, so we just have to except it.

I agree Matt.
Lamps has a certain style he wants to play but because of the injuries he hasn't been able to do it properly.
I think after the international break we will see our real starting XI.

We will never guess the starting 11 Matt.

Werner LW
Havertz RW or CF
Alonso is a LWB at best and not a LB
Kante or Kovacic are not DM's
Mount is not a RW or LW

Playing players out of position will more than likely result in failure than success. I think I've not guessed 1 lineup in over a year haha.

I would have chosen CHO over Mount, Werner or Havertz as a winger but none of us know if there was an issue with CHO.

I do think playing Havertz as a false nine was wrong and there was a easy on pitch solution to take Werner away from the wing but that’s just my opinion and preference.

I say again Kante can play in a double pivot with the correct type of player. He is NOT a Makalele., so we Kante to play the solution is to find a player to play with him. For me that is certainly NOT Mount.

I don’t think we should play the double pivot until we have the right player available to play in it alongside Kante I think Gilmour would be a capable candidate when fit.

With the players available from the last squad I’d set up as a 4-3-3.

Mendy

James. Zouma. Silva. Dave.

Kante.
Havertz. Kovacic

Mount. Odoi.

Werner.

Good Post Tom. let's just hope Lamps sorts this out soon. I'll keep saying play players tontheir strengths.

As for the double pivot to play alongside Kante, I would normally have said Jorginho given that he does not adventure forward and sits back. He may not be the best defensively at times but I'd rather we have someone than not have anyone. Kovacic for me is a classic box to box like Kante. Gilmour is injured or could have been a candidate.

Under other posts, Obinna informs us that Kante has played the Maka role for France (I wouldn’t have a clue) and for us but I don’t recall him playing on his own much as a DM.

As I’ve said if he can play the Maka role that would be fantastic and if nothing else save us a fortune.
