Great to see Frank Lampard finally realising his best formation and playing players in their right positions. Kante at the base of the midfield 3 has been a revelation, protects the defence, breaks up play, covers others and distributes quickly. Simply brilliant and so glad we kept him. Young Billy is playing for the 23's today and he is highly regarded by Lamps who will use him in that role going forward. With Kai and Mount making up the midfield 3 and Kovacic to cover with the likes of Ross, Connor and Ampadu to come back in we are well set in midfield. The front 3 looked good yesterday and could of scored a lot more but what I liked was the way they kept their heads up culminating in that brilliant 2nd goal. With CHO admitting his ankle is only just returning to normal and Pulisic returning shortly we are also well stocked up front, If we are mounting a title challenge I expect Giroud to possibly stay until the summer as well.
I do expect a new striker/ forward in the summer and a world class addition at that to challenge what we have.
Reece and Ben will be our fullbacks for years to come and with some talented youngsters coming through I think these areas are covered. Has anyone seen our young rightback playing for the under 18's and development squad? What a prospect he is and with Malang Sarr able to play both left back and centre back plus Ian Maatland and of course the experience of Cesar we are in good shape. Toni has done well when stepping in for Silva, who is still one of the best in the world, and Kurt has gone to another level this season. I do expect another world class centre back with experience to come in next summer though just to keep things fresh and competitive. Assumimg of course the club can offload a few players.
Mendy has been awesome and a brilliant find by Cech but again I do wonder if another back up is needed assumimg Kepa can find a new club.
We are in great shape and it was nice to see the new coach we signed from Wigan in the summer vocal on the bench yesterday, I think he has been working 1 to 1 with some of the defenders and is proving to be an asset already. Anyone fellow blues onto Rennes now and then the big one against that north london mob.
