Ed001 do you think giroud wasted years at arsenal he sort of became there Peter crouch no ones fault they were a pass the ball in the net type team and brought him on when they needed a goal as have chelsea
My point is he would of been an ideal Drogba replacement years ago
I know we bought big names but he so suits the way Chelsea play and have played
I fear he could of been a real legend at a different club than the arsenal who never suited his style
I know we are all on the band wagon I have been for 2 years as I don't rate Kevin Abraham at all
Sorry for long winded question take care mate.

{Ed001's Note - I think he was far too good for the role he was given at Arsenal and he is being wasted now a bit at Chelsea. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated players of the last few years and I do agree he would have been ideal for Chelsea if he had joined a number of seasons earlier. I think he showed at the end of last season that he deserved to be the starter this time around and it has been a mistake by Frank imo to not give him a lot more time on the pitch.}

Thanks for quick reply ed agree 100%
And I think we'd be top of league now if he played instead.

{Ed001's Note - I find it difficult to come up with a convincing argument against that to be honest. Makes me glad Frank isn't as big a fan of Giroud as I am!!}

It's a marathon of a season, I hope Lampard is saving Giroud for the big games in the new year. He has a massive role to play for this team, it's plain for everyone to see and surely that includes Lampard.

I’m not sure Oli will be around come the end of the season based on the minutes he’s gotten so far. I am strongly of the opinion that the club would be better off with him playing striker whenever Werner hasn’t been rather than Tammy. That said it’s tough to make Tammy your 3rd striker after a season where (regardless of what you think about his performance as a whole) he did score double digit goals.

I agree with your view Ed1. I've been saying from the start that Giroud should be ahead of Tammy, he is so underrated.

Your right his being wasted at Chelsea right now. If we want to win things then we have to play him and if that means Tammy plays a bit part role then so be it.

{Ed001's Note - with the amount of games in such a short period and the need to rest and rotate to keep players fresh, there should be plenty of games for both.}

Thats true but up until now it hasn't really worked out for Giroud. He definitely needs more game time. I feel Lampard is giving Tammy a good chance to prove his worth and if he doesn't take it sooner rather than later then his career may be short lived.

{Ed001's Note - he is too much like Batshuayi for me. His touch is too poor to make a top class player. Abraham I mean, just in case someone thinks I meant Giroud!}

Of course Ed1, I'm sure no one would mistaken these traits for Giroud. Talking about Tammy's touch, there was that instance vs Spurs where he got away but his next touch was so poor that he lost the ball.

Unfortunately, I have to agree he is too much like Batshuayi. He seems to have a strong will but he hasn't got the required skills to make it. His no longer a youngster and I think this is Abraham going forward.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame because he can clearly score goals, but he has not figured out how to do the basics.}

I agree and that's his problem. His 1st touch, control and general hold up play isn't up to scratch. His speed (not slow) nor dribble ability can bail him out. For a tall man I would have expected his main asset to be 'headers' but he seems weak in the air. Lampard has given him a massive chance and he really needs to grab it because Giroud grabs everything always and that's because his class is permanent I suppose.

If you liken him to lukaku similar types of players height wise but tammy hasn't filled out like romelu
Who also hasn't got the best touch but he masters what he's good at.

{Ed001's Note - I did think that, I was going to say Lukaku initially but he is so much quicker and more powerful he can usually get away with the ball bouncing off him.}

I think we won't realise just how good Giroud is, until we try to find someone else to do the same job as him.

I'm struggling to think of anyone.

For me Tammy just doesn’t really excel in any particular area. Nowadays attackers have to be specialists in the sense that they do something particularly well which in turn poses defenses a considerable threat. Werner’s is his pace, giroud’s is his aerial prowess and hold up play, aguero’s is his finishing and ability to be in the right place at the right time. While Tammy does a number of things servicably, he’s not particularly impressive in any particular capacity which leads to his average outputs.

I think a lot of you are underrating how good Tammy has been for us this season. 1 subpar game vs Spurs doesn't change the fact that our attack has been excellent with him at striker.

The fact we are not first right now is due to Kepa and Caballero starting the season as our GKs. Any of you truly believe we let in 3 vs either Soton or West Brom if Mendy is in goal? I certainly don't believe so.

Tammy's been good, as has Giroud. Tammy suits certain matches better (e. g. vs Leeds with their high line), while Giroud will suit others better. They both should get plenty of matches. Let's be glad we have both.

Tammy is 23, has excellent movement, is a terrific athlete (not many players his height have similar speed and technical ability) and is improving his game. His link up play already looks vastly improved over last season.
Keep underrating him. His quality will shine through in the end. He'll be a beast in 2 or 3 years, and in the meantime he's a fantastic rotation option.

{Ed001's Note - against Leeds with a high line, playing Giroud dropping off and distracting attention or even dragging a centre-back with him would create more space for the wide forwards to get in behind. Playing Tammy there just pegs the defenders back and closes off the spaces. So no, it is not better suited playing Tammy against a high line, especially not while Werner is one of the wingers. It makes little sense when, even if Giroud wasn't there, Werner is much better central than Tammy.}
