Dissapointing results of late. Our last 5 games in all comps haven't been great - DLLWLD.

I just feel we are a little too predictable atm. We are continuously passing to the wingers who are whipping in crosses one after another hoping for Giroud or Tammy to get to the end of these crosses. We scored vs Wolves, West Ham, Arsenal and Villa using the above tactics. I think that's a great plan B but we definitely need to consider playing through the middle and making it difficult for the opposition. I think we have the players to play through the middle but again they need be utilised the right way.

Interesting times, let's hope we get out of this pickle 🙏.

Well balanced post Shak.

I’m confident we will improve on our current poor form but some serious work is needed by all concerned.

I agree Tom and as much as it pains me to see a big break before we play again impending, it is probably right that the players get the time to do some serious work now. Hopefully, we can kick on again. We usually go through a rotten phase every winter.

I am positive that we will get out of it. This is a team that has been set up to succeed in the long run. We have spent a huge amount of money, but that doesn't necessarily means that we are going to be successful within a few months.

The team has actually improved compared to last season even though it might seem like we are going backwards if you look at our point total and our current position.
I think we should not forget that this is a very unusual season and we are still right up there to compete for the top 4.

FL should stay the full 3 season he has been promised. We will get there.

The problem for me is that I'm having a really hard time spotting exactly where we've improved. We still concede very few chances, just like we did last season. But Mendy's honeymoon period is over, and now we're conceding goals. Perhaps not quite as poor goalkeeping, so I guess that's a place where we've improved.
But offensively we barely create any chances it almost seems, other than corners. If we've improved offensively, it's sure not by a lot.

Oh come on! Just look at our goals scored and goals conceded stats.

There has been improvements and I'm sure there will be more.

I think we will be fine. The fact that Lampard played Timo as a striker off the bench was positive yesterday and definitely a good sign. It fills me with hope because it may eradicate the pass, cross and pray Giroud or Abraham get to the end of it.

Its been a funny old season but I agree with Ash we will get out of this mess. We go again.

I am concerned that we are so predictable. Does every goal have to come from the wings. Our creativity in the middle is quite poor.

Imo there is no improvement from last season and also don't understand a sustainable style being used by Frank. We are just like a championship/ newly promoted team at the moment. My fear is that Frank would have made Torres out of our new signings before leaving if he's allowed to continue till season end. We don't have any reason to be where we are now after strengthening every area with Frank's choices of players. We may wait for lampard for more than 4 season to become the coach we expect which is too much of a sacrifice imo. No other coach would still be here except our Frank. We need experience to integrate the young and new players and not a rookie manager who himself is still learning coaching basics. The earlier the better.

Us being predictable for me comes down to these things:

1- 433 is not FL's preferred formation, even though he has used it quite a lot. He prefers to play 4231 but we don't have the right personel for that.

2- Our midfield position is very weak and lacks creativity. Especially when we are using 433 with Kanté.

3- Hakim Ziyech is an important X-Factor for us. His creativeness, vision and willingness to use different things is exactly the thing we have missed and after he went out, our poor run has begun.

4- Not having a preseason and having lots of new players whom a few of them are not quite used to the PL yet and also not playing a lot of minutes together regularly makes everything so much more complicated and hard. We should not expect our team to play like Liverpool, City or even Wolves and Villa.

But FL has also made a few mistakes and needs to do more.

Honestly, we have only lost 4 games in all comps, which isn't bad at all. The only negative thing is that all of them have come together in 2 weeks.

We will get through this. Let's all support Frank and the lads and I'm sure we can move forward to better days.

Interesting post ilo, I do fear with what's happening with Werner. I've always said I've followed this man far too long to say won't adapt. The fact that his getting into scoring opportunities and missing them is concerning because that's his bread and butter. His confidence is rocked this is where man management is needed.

Good balanced post Ashk.

29 Dec 2020 12:34:38
Why does this no pre season excuse keep popping up Noone had a pre season yes we have new players so does everyone else
The only new signing who started yesterday was chillwell who has played in prem for years everyone else has been at Chelsea for a few years
So stop coming up with lame excuses for Mr lampard.

29 Dec 2020 12:37:26
By the way villa had 4 new signings playing yesterday.

29 Dec 2020 13:02:26
It was a horrendous run of fixtures in December, bogey grounds, bogey teams. Think Chelsea should have had 4 more points, should have beaten Spurs and Villa. Ref was awful last night, as at Arsenal. Agreed with Lamps when you are down you get nought in terms of luck. With regard Lamps position, no way should anybody be thinking of letting the guy go early, this is his signings being put to work. I have some concerns around Werner and the GK, but Havertz will be excellent. IMO Chelsea will finish above Everton, Leicester and Villa.

29 Dec 2020 14:04:33
Brilliant post Ashk.

Lamps will be with us for many years and that will mean we have been successful.

29 Dec 2020 16:32:02
Thanks Tom.

I do agree with you.

I think it was Ed who said that some people just use these platforms to release their anger.

I guess that’s understandable!
