What's the outlook so far then with Lampard, some saying want him out others saying we can't change opinion game to game, so, my point of view, and this is after a win so isn't reactionary, we're 7th in the league, 3 points behind Everton who have a game in hand, we're on same points as teams Southampton and West Ham and 3 points ahead of villa who have 2 games in hand, in recent fixtures we've lost or drew to city wolves Everton and villa, where beaten West Ham and Fulham even
Thought performance were terrible in both games. We've spent money and bought big players and gone backwards? We
Just cross ball, that seems our style, we have exciting players on paper. Havertz / werner who we can't get best out of and have been used in various positions and low on confidence. This isn't all franks fault but it's part of his role, New league young players etc, so explain pulisic, 11 games 1 goal 0 assists, frank can't get best out of him it appears, out play is slow, dull and predictable, comparing Sarri who got slater for kante use Lampard isn't any better, any Lampard in supporters could you explain how we've improved from last season or what our style / philosophy is? Cho impressed with the time he has then doesn't start games. Frank said after the game he deserved to start? So why not start him, and I don't want the " it's a project " because it's a 3 year " project " and we've gotten worse from start not better, so why frank in,

Agree4 Disagree0

Fantastic post Matt. Thankfully, you are seeing things very objectively. I can't answer your questions unfortunately because I think Lampard is out of his depth here.

Only one thing I'll add is that we also lost to Arsenal, in addition to City, Wolves and Everton. DLLWLDLW.

Could be better could be worse. The squad is good on paper like you've said, haven't clicked just yet. Have been really good at times and very poor at times. FL is still learning about both himself and the players and still needs some time considering everything. I certainly wouldn't be pulling any plugs and I think squad rotation has been brilliant and once players in key positions hit peak form we'll be much much better. Injuries to CP, CHO, Kante, Kai with C.V., Hakim hasn't helped. Especially Hakim as he was pulling all the strings before his injury. I still think we're going to finish top 4 .

I’m getting really pissed with this debate on Lamps and sacking him before his 3 years is completed! If Pep is sacked 18 months in, City don’t win the PL with him, and they had been recent PL champs before he arrived. if Klopp is sacked 18 months in, Liverpool don’t reach 2 CL finals, win one of them and then win the PL. Klopp also lost a Europa league final from 2-0 up. Lamps is doing the hard yards getting rid of the aging and the deadwood, he has not got shot of one player that we don’t all agree with. He even got money for Luis?! Lamps is also blooding the YA youngsters into the first team, that builds a connect with the fans something that was missing with that clown Sarri. There is not one foreign coach out there that would give a flying fig about any of that. Chelsea need a new spine, GK, CB, HM, Rice has been identified by Lamps for HM, there is whispers over the AC keeper, all he needs then is a CB. However more importantly Chelsea need to behave with some class in this area of sacking their greatest ever player. He stays all the way three years is only fair. Lamps has earned every last minute of it.

I'm still on the fence to a certain degree, with regards to Lampard in or out, but probably leaning towards in - for now.

Who are we going to bring in at this stage of a season? Will they turn the ship around and get us UCL qualification? There's absolutely no guarantee of anything with a new manager part way through a season, it's more likely that it'll just be another negative disruption in an already disrupted season. Give Lampard the opportunity to improve things and review at the end of the season. If things haven't improved, if we're not seeing the best of our big players then we'll likely have to move on from him. In the summer we'd have a better opportunity to identify, and hire, our top target - whoever that would be. They'd be coming in for a pre-season and fresh start, rather than trying to solve a poor season and starting from a negative position.

Who will we get top 4th ahead of, Leicester / spurs, isn’t that part of the problem that frank is still learning about team and himself, ? Been 18 months and we’ve not progressed? If anything a little worse off, I’ll say I think we have too many “ meh ‘
Kovecic - what does he really offer?
Jorginho - what does he give us gilmour doesn’t? I think we lack some steel but if muscle, we have a highly regarded young attacking no 10 but don’t play a no10? Pointless signing? We don’t seem to know how to get best out of what we’ve got and I don’t see signs of it happening anytime soon,

17 Jan 2021 18:08:01
How could it be any worse. We added 250 millions pounds worth of talent, and frank doesn’t know how to use them.

17 Jan 2021 18:10:54
Peps first season he just got 4th, second season he won it, so the 18 months talk doesn’t make sense, klopp improved each season, there was a style of play and wit needed tweaking with better more suitable players, we’ve gone backwards with £220m investment? Blooding in youths in great, what about egos and and big players, his shown so much faith in mount and played him lots, Cho doesn’t get same affection or trust. Havertz too, his not getting a tune out of pulisic which nobody mentions has been worse than havertz / werner? My question is 18 months on what / where has improved?

17 Jan 2021 18:15:28
Absolutely bang on Stephen. Especially the point about Sarri.

17 Jan 2021 18:53:49
I agree Matt, I like to be positive but no way can I close my eyes to all the problems we are seeing right now at #CFC. I can't go on and ignore all the problems and pretend it's all fine.

It's easy to make excuses like many and say C.V., players need time to gel, no pre-season and injuries etc. Excuses are endless. My blue tinted glasses are off and I'm sure I will agree to disagree with many on here. We've dipped, definitely and gone backwards.

17 Jan 2021 19:03:00
@stephen I don't understand your 18 month talk at all. The Pep comparison doesn't make sense.

One more thing, why can't we sack our greatest ever player and why does he have the divine right for 3 years and how has he earned it?

Thankfully, in RA we trust 🙏. Poor performances don't go unnoticed and frank is no exception.

17 Jan 2021 19:38:56
Ps Kova seemed much more comfortable and purposeful once Jorginho substituted in second half.

I’m firmly of the opinion that I would wait until the end of the season to do anything with Frank as I don’t think we could replace him with a better candidate mid season now that poch is off the market. That said Klopp and Pep arguments are ridiculous. Say what you want about what Frank inherited but that squad finished 3rd and won the Europa league. Pep was always going to take time as his style of play is so different than everyone else’s and he required a completely different squad to run his system which takes time. The Liverpool that klopp inherited was awful and shouldn’t be compared to what Frank inherited.

18 Jan 2021 00:21:54
Thanks for sharing some perspective TK. I don't get how some people believe that Klopp inherited a better squad than Frank.

I don't get why Sarri is being called a clown? Chelsea v Arsenal (Europa League final), fantastic football on display after a difficult season. Sarri finally found a way for us to play efficiently without getting countered. He finished 3rd and won the Europa League. Certainly not one of our better managers but he achieved what was expected by finishing 3rd behind the best two teams in the country. Lampard definitely inherited a capable team with the exception of Hazard.

18 Jan 2021 00:46:29
Sardis football was boring snd repetitive, same as franks, kante not used to his best, same as frank, difference is franks there not on merit but reputation and club legend, fans never really took to Sarri so where quick to turn on him. Frank gets a pass because his playing days, and like I said, pep struggles first seaoson then IMPROVED, klopp had terrible squad but had a vision and philosophy snd each season IMPROVED, hassenhuttl has improved saints each year, Rogers has at Leicester, ole has at United, we have gone back and I don’t just mean league table but our football in general, and again I’ll ask the questions
1) what or where has frank improved us
2) what’s are style of play / philosophy
3) what’s this 3 years plan as we’re half way through now?

18 Jan 2021 06:49:41
Just can't understand how some people defend Sarri but don't want to give Lamps time. We played some of the worst football we have ever played under him and there was a period when teams scored against us for fun (remember the thrashing City gave us) .
He didn't have any sort of plan B, same subs every single game, poor man management and communication with the fans and on top of that bizarre transfers.
Yet people talk about merit, like he has won anything before or done anything important.

The fact is, Eden won us and him a EL title and he got us 3rd, not Sarri.

Nobody is comparing Frank with Pep or Klopp, we are just saying that you have to give a manager time to build his team. Frank's the man to rebuild the squad. Let him do it.

18 Jan 2021 08:45:47
Ashk- what’s been good and where have we improved from last season, and what’s our style? @Stephen compared pep and klopp a first years saying give time, they both improved year after year,

18 Jan 2021 08:58:19
@Matt:

We have improved defensively, both goals conceded and shots on target.

We have improved on set pieces, both offensively and defensively.

We have improved the number of high quality chances created compared to last season.

I am not an expert in this field, but I have seen improvement even though it might not look much.

But the most important thing is to understand that when you don't have a preseason with a completely new team in the midst of a C.V. which has affected all sorts of things, it's going to be much harder to implement new ideas and improve drastically.

Last season finished later than usual and so that's why there has been games every 3 days for 3 4 months. There is little to no time for any manager to cement the ideas and tactics he wants to see.

The most important aspect that I think we can improve is the level of energy and urgency we show in each game. We have to play with a bit of a higher tempo and we badly need better leadership in the game. Also a good DM is needed as well.
Lamps has to be better as well, like with some of his line ups and subs.

Up the blues.

18 Jan 2021 10:04:06
Some people may not like a former manager but to say Hazard got us 3rd position and a EL victory is pathetic. The lengths people go to support their agenda is mad.

May aswel say Giroud got us 4th last year and not lampard. I've got all day to make remarks like this about former managers and players.

@matt
1) The table suggests we were better at this point last season than now despite having better players.
2) We have improved in certain areas like set pieces but have regressed in others. No new ideas of how to break down a defence except for the full-backs to get crosses in. STILL playing Jorginho and Kovacic together: a case of doing the same thing over and over again but hoping for a different result. Tactically outwitted by rival managers. The list goes on.

In my opinion, he definitely needs some help if he isn't going to be replaced.

18 Jan 2021 10:58:48
Seems to me Shak that you are the one repeating your statements over and over again to support your agenda. I assure you that I don't have one. 😁👍🏼

And when I say Eden got us there, it's not about him scoring goals or something like that. It's about him creating EVERYTHING for us offensively. Everything went through him and he was the one who made the difference.

Sarri won a Serie A title with Ronaldo, so I would also say that he won it for him, not the other way around.

18 Jan 2021 11:52:16
The “ No preseason “ argument can’t be used as it’s the same for all teams, villa look better in every aspect and playing ok football, Everton too who’ve added new players,

18 Jan 2021 20:22:10
It’s perfectly reasonable to say pre-season is slightly different at Chelsea as the club chose to sign so many players.

I don’t think any other Premiership side signed more first team players than us.
