Shevchenko bookies favourite to be next Chelsea manager it seems ahead if Allegri and Tuchel. Surely not.?

{Ed0666's Note - Roman has got a really good friendship with Shevchenko still even though things didn’t work out for Shev as a player. I’d be surprised if he gets the managers job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simon Johnson on talksport live tonight says it’s a matter of when not if and a bad result tomorrow against a big side could be the end. Take that with a pinch of salt.

That's some smart talking for you there. He can tomorrow twist his words to match the current situation. They just want more attention and more subscribers, that's all.

Nothing had changed.

Simon Johnson built up a reasonable reputation while at the Standard for accurate Chelsea information.

Since joining the Athletic his articles, particularly on individual players are always in my opinion worth reading but his so called inside scoops have very often proved to be inaccurate. Like all organisations like Chelsea plans can change very quickly, so I do understand why a journalist can get egg on their face.

Chelsea history suggests at some point Lamps will get the tin tac. So therefore the Simon Johnson comment “it’s not if but when” is at some stage almost certain to be right.

For me, it doesn’t make sense as we are apparently also looking to get another person in to support Lamps, so why would he be sacked.

Who knows, only Roman knows!

I imagine the prime candidates Nagelsmann and Hassenhuttl would be reluctant to leave the club's they manage in the middle of the season.
Bringing in an advisor would be seen as a way of getting through the remainder of the season.
If things get really bad then maybe someone will be brought in on a temporary basis.
I don't see the current management team being in charge next season unless a drastic change in form and performance levels happens in the next few weeks.

If our performances and results improve why would we need a new manager?

Maybe the advisor is being brought in to cover rest of season if the worst does happen as well.

As I keep saying, only Roman knows and I doubt if SJ has any more clue than us.

Thanks for all these comments Ed006 and fellow posters. Shevchenko odds are 7/ 5. Would those who want Lampard out really be happier with someone who has managed the Ukraine national side but not a club in a tough league? Might be a case of be careful what you wish for? OK Shevchenko after has had some success with Ukraine in last year or two, but.

I don't feel confident about getting a result tonight, who could given our recent run, but surely Lampard needs to be given at least to the end of this season to work with this group of players he has either integrated (and who have improved) from the academy or who joined six months ago. No pre-season, packed schedule, injuries, adapting from Bundesliga to EPL etc as others on here have stressed. Watching the underwhelming game between LFC - who have not scored at Anfield for 3 consecutive league games and haven't won in 4 (but LFC hit heavily by injuries, or is this just an excuse? ) - and United, I was reminded of just how many established and/ or proven EPL players both of their squads have, pit together at vast expense (far more than £200m), and how esp LFC added in additional youth and quality experience carefuully and slowly - compared to way in which we've been trying to rebuild rapidly with many new additions (understandable given market conditions and our transfer ban) and largely with highly promising youngsters but who are still not v experienced or battle hardened. Just comparing Alison with Mendy.

So, sure, if Lampard has not demosntrated improvement by end of season he will probably be out, and may go before then. But I still have great concern about climbing back on manager merry go round. Lots of nostalgia for Sarri and Conte eras on here, but how many youngsters did they bring through? I certainly did not want Conte to go when he did, but also remember some extremely dull and slow play I saw at Stamfod Bridge then, not least in cold January games!, with vast amount of passing sideways at the back, albeit certainly when Conte switched to back 3 we let far fewer goals in. I really do think that building a system of integrating youth from the academy into the squad while adding real quality when able to is the way forward, but one that needs continuity in management. None of us can be certain whether Frank is or is not the answer now or longer term but he is surely attempting to do what the club wanted him to in terms of youth. And if he were to go, then I would really hope that the ambition to find a long term manager who can and will do this and do this well is not lost sight of. Might not be that easy to find the right person, and please not Tuchel! For now I will still hope it can be Lampard even if we lose tonight.

Enough. Good to have you back TomB. Expect you didn't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the comments on here when you were not participating! I may get shouted at too for this.

{Ed0666's Note - Wow nice post JBS I respect the time and consideration you put into it. For me I’d have lampard axed ASAP before he wastes more time and money. You can get top 4 still but you won’t do with Lampard. Shavchenko may get you relegated but he may get you top 4. It’s broke you need to fix it.
