Positives from the United game.

Back three all had decent games, with Christensen looking excellent again. I thought Chilwell looked better at wingback, and it was good for him to come back into the team for a big game. He just needs to learn when to push on and when to hold back more effectively, but he got back to defend well a couple of times during United counters.

Kante and Kovacic looked better as a pair, and Mount was his usual consistently good self.

Ahead of them there wasn't too much to shout about. There was one decent mazy dribble into the heart of United's defence, but that was from Rudiger. Thought Werner came on far too late and would have liked to have seen Havertz come into a false nine role for Giroud; maybe CHO's injury didn't help with that. Hopefully he gets, and takes, his opportunity soon.

What's more disappointing is the fact that tuchel saw United were playing high press game and didn't bring on werner and havertz in to the game early. Also I think it's time mount moved into kova role and havertz or ziyech play in the hole behind 2 strikers as we don't have goal threat from mf. I know it's harsh on kova but team over individuals any day. I would go on to say sell kova in summer as his end product is currently lacking and I don't see any improvements there given his age. I know this is controversial but something that needs to be done.

Kovacic and Jorginho or Kante are being asked to stay disciplined and support the defence. They're clearly doing that role, and it's helped make us more solid.

But I do agree, in games you'd expect us to win we could / should move Mount deeper. I personally see him as a number eight in the long term. The only caveat I'd put on that is he'd ideally need a physically dominant holding player next to him, something that we don't have, which is a well publicised need. I think lacking this type of player is why we're playing two holding players in the way that we are.

If we could pull Mount further back, I'd then like to see Werner, Havertz and Pulisic ahead. All three can interchange and play the false nine, whilst Havertz offers a threat in the air too.

Reckon that something along lines you suggest very necessary to get us offering more of a goal threat J.

Sure room has to be made for Ziyech and/ or Havertz in the team but I don’t think the team will be better if Mount was moved back deep into the central midfield at this time of the season (and certainly not at this stage in his career when he’s still mastering a particular role which he’s clearly excelling at) . Besides the fact that the kid (Mount) does a lot of work for the attacking midfield and attack, it could prove counterproductive to his development as a player and will certainly stall the momentum of the team at this time.

Personally, I feel If TT has decides to stick with 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation going forward, the club should sell Ziyech and keep Havertz cos I think both players are very similar (but Havertz is younger, has more room for improvement) .

Madblue0304; I think you are downplaying Kovacic's importance in our central midfield. Everyone's entitled to his choice- for me, Kovacic (with his weaknesses) is my first pick for our central midfield pair (out of Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho and Gilmour) at the moment and I think he (Kovacic) pairs better with Jorginho not Kante.

Interesting posts. Obinna, I do agree that Jorginho/ Kovacic has worked fairly well as a pairing when we have seen them in a 3 at the back formation with tgwo wing backs. Jorginho looked particularly good in that pretty slow paced game v deep sitting Atletico, but not sure that he has the athleticism if we switched to a back 4 - which I would like us doing at some stage to develop more fluid attacking play like City/ LFC when at pea - and Jorginho generally not quite as comfortable in EPL as in European games. The same could be said of Alonso, for instance.

JBS; I think switching to a back 4 at this point will spell doom both for the manager TT and the team, You could be right though about Jorginho’s athleticism and a back four.
