Ed/ fellow Blues, can I ask your thoughts on Billy Gilmour and Conner Gallagher.

Both seem to have bright futures, but can you see them making our starting 11?

I think both have a lot of developing to do still and I can see Gilmour eventually replacing Jorginho (maybe 22/ 23 season), but I can't see where Callaghar fits in. For me he has Mount and Havertz ahead of him in his favoured position, they will surely have many more seasons at the Bridge and have probably proved to be the nail in the coffin for RLC.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - Gilmour should walk into the team, Kante is coming to the end, he has more quality than Jorginho to play his role. He just needs to gain experience, which means he needs to play.

I am with you on Gallagher though, I just don't see a place at Chelsea for him. I am not even sure what he actually is. He runs too much for my liking. Strange thing to say I know, but most of what he does is ineffective. He could really do with working under Tuchel and learning some positional discipline, then he might well be able to push for a position in the team. Without it, he is too busy running around to actually be where he can help out. It reminds me of watching James Milner when he first started playing central midfield at Liverpool. So much running, so much effort and you know he has the ability needed, but he always seemed to be in the wrong place and putting the effort into the wrong things. He needs to be working with better coaches to teach him when and where to focus his work.}

Gallagher is the only midfield player we have currently who has a goal in him.
That was evident when he played for Charlton under Bowyer another goalscoring midfield player in his time.
We need goals from midfield and that won't be helped by Gilmour Kovacic or Jorghino.
As things stand I would send Gilmour on loan and bring back Gallagher unless the intention is to sell Jorghino which would surprise the given his current form.

I think Jorginho has been excellent under Tuchel, he's done a very professional job for him. But the time has come for Gilmour, who can do the same job and more, to take his place in the team. Could rotate Gilmour and Kante alongside Kovacic, or a new central defensive midfielder, over the next year.

Gallagher isn't going to make it at the club I'm afraid. There's obviously Mount, Havertz etc, but in all honesty Anjorin is already a better player than him. Ultimately it's going to be very difficult for both to break into the team. Gallagher will have a very good career, just not at Chelsea.

Strasbourg, we also have RLC and Barkley out on loan - both have a goal in them.

We do but I see Barkley going and RLC isn't a central midfield player.

{Ed077's Note - IMO Barkley isnt good enough and RLC's injury concerns mean he isnt either}

I agree with Ed077, Barkley ha never shown anything to really warrant staying at Chelsea and RLC for me is just to unreliable due to injuries, hasn't played particularly great at Fulham either so I'm happy to cash both in.

I think RLC has improved immensely over time at Fulham.

Oooh, Mc93, disagree - RLC has: a) stayed fit all season at Fulham; and b) has played brilliantly at times. (Agree about Barkley - just not consistent enough - shame because he looked like the new Gazza at 20).

I don’t think Barkley, RLC or Gallagher have a long term future at Chelsea.

{Ed077's Note - Gallagher is the only one I see having any future at Chelsea and even then that is slim IMO

Thanks for the replies, especially Ed01.

Interesting that some of you think Gilmour is already at the standard of Jorginho. Maybe we will see more of him next season when TT has had a better chance to work with him on the training ground.

I'm in agreement about Callaghar. He has the potential to be great, but needs to concentrate on his positional game. Maybe another load next season will help with this.

Good to see so many options in CM 👍.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Avram.} Become a Patron!

I think natural ability / technically wise Gilmour is at that standard, but Tuchel has clearly leaned in Jorginho's experience. Which has worked out well.
