Rice or Jorginho?

Been a question that has lingered around the fan base for a while. I’ve never been Jorgis biggest fan, I do think he is a brilliant player on his day and he does control a game when he has the space and when opposing midfield sit back but I believe we’d be a whole different side with a more physical presence in midfield who is good at defending, bullying players off the ball and good in the air. Rice for me is just the player we need. He and Kovacic/ Kanté or even RLC would easily make us that more solid against robust teams.

We struggle when teams get physical. Rice could be our own Fabinho he does the defending and gives it to the more technical players and mind you both are really good technically but they don’t hold on to it too long have brilliant range of passing and are not afraid of a pop outside the box something we’ve lacked massively.

This isn’t just a reaction from the last two games it’s just an assessment of our midfield and where I think we lack a solid core.

Rice all day for me. Just never been a Jorginho fan like some. Needs a system to suit him whereas I think Rice doesn’t. Sign of a quality player.

Neither.

It’s fine if Chelsea can get someone that is better Jorginho but it’s not Declan Rice for me. West Ham beating Chelsea doesn’t make West Ham a better club than Chelsea; and certainly doesn’t make Declan Rice a better midfield player than Jorginho- for me. The only attraction that I see in Declan Rice is that he is younger.

Totally agree ELI. Rice for me as well.

Rice by a country mile.

Rice, in my opinion would be different class for us for many years to come but sadly it ain’t going to happen.

Rice is probably the best mid in PL currently. He's an excellent player. Defensively strong, but he's also added breaking runs on the ball and good passong to his game.
He's not flashy, but I love his game. He's a winner.

Jorginho is certainly a good player. But I do believe he's limited and I don't see us winning a PL with him as our starter.

If I had the chance I'd sign Rice in a heartbeat. However, I fear West Ham will price him out of a move to Chelsea.

I can't ever remember slagging off a Chelsea player, but I'm afraid Jorginho has become a liability. His passing has always been suspect - some good, some bl**dy awful. He cost us against the Mancs and his under-hit pass-back on Saturday was yet another example. Rice would be a definite improvement but will the Hammers ever sell him to us?

Rice because he is superb as an individual player but also because I think he would give more than that in terms team building and leadership. Be a part of a spine to it, as we're JT, FL and DD. have felt quite often in last few seasons that we've lacked that kind of leadership on the pitch, especially when things not going to plan. But Rice to CFC probably won't happen now most seem to be saying.

I don’t think West Ham will be looking to sell Rice any time soon. If he wants to leave he will have to start running his contract down. I’m not sure if the board would be willing to pay the fee WHU would ask. TBH the last thing Chelsea need is another defensive midfielder unless Jorginho and Kova leave. What we need is a creative midfielder with goals in him.

I’m sorry guys, but Jorginho is awful. Honestly, if he keeps this up he goes in beside Bosingwa as the worst Chelsea player of the RA era. For me it is no coincidence that Jorginho was demanded by Sarri ( the worst manager of the RA era) Boy, what a number he done on the Chelsea board. Chelsea were actually unwatchable. But for the gift of Eden Hazard it was pointless going to SB. I noticed the Chelsea’s woman coach ( who is the best technical pundit I have ever seen on TV) putting in a sub in the 90th minute of the FA cup final with Chelsea 3-0 up. Now that is proper. Who remembers that clown Sarri leaving Gary Cahill on the bench 4-1 up in the Europa final in his final game and putting on that half-wit Zappacosta another useless so and so. Told me everything I needed to know. Spend the dosh on Declan, a CB and I think a GK ( getting worried about that) and bring back CG and BG next summer and win a title. Before it reaches a decade!

I disagree with th majority of your post Stephen as I have the umpteenth times you bring the subject of Jorginho up but your entitled to your opinion.

AVB, the ex Brazilian manager who’s name escapes me and RB all far worse than Sarri in the RA era for me.

The games under RA (who obviously won a trophy for us) became so predictable, I contemplated not going while he was manager.

Thing is with Rice, he's developed into a player that we don't really need. You can't label him as a DCM anymore, he's box to box. For me, we need someone to sit in front of our back three and complement the box to box players we have.

“J”, I think Rice is a player that can allow us to play 4 at the back. He is deceptively quick and can cover the gaps between CB’s when required. He can pass and his workrate is unbelievable. I think in years to come he will be seen as World class player and that’s not a term I like using.

I’m sure people will give out alternatives but I haven’t seen them play, particularly in the Premiership.

Unfortunately my dream will be shattered for the foreseeable future. He is not coming to Chelsea.
