Putting aside our recent performances and player selection, one other thing has surprised me over the last two games.
If will play with three at the back Jorginho looks ok and can usually be relied upon to relieve pressure from an opponents press. So I was surprised when he didn't start against City.
When we played with four at the back against the spuds we played with Kante and Kovacic and that worked. I think it's been said many times on this site that Jorginho isn't the player to sit in front of a four. So this time I was surprised when he was picked ahead of Kovacic.
Of course I don't know about the different players fitness levels or the need at this stage of the season for rotation but both are irrelevant as they played the games anyway just in the wrong matches in my opinion!

Yesterday TT tried 4231and it absolute disaster. 3 in the back is perfect when Reece-James is on the pitch. 4222 looked great vs Spurs. But last nights 4231 doesn't work for those Chelsea players.

Jorginho was ineffective last night.
I agree with your assessment Tom.
My overall opinion hasn't changed on Jorginho. He is not suited for the game in the PL.

In my opinion Ashk his selection works in front of a three.
Listen we aren’t elite managers so in TT we trust but for me both team selections were odd and in Jorginho’s the wrong way around.

Brighton played at pace and their passing was quick and accurate. Our play was so ponderous and there were a lot of misplaced passes. It takes us an age to get the ball forward and by the time it gets there the opposition usually have enough men back to smother our attack. We only really started to look half decent in the last 10 minutes yesterday.

Definitely think team selections have been dodgy recently except for the 2 spurs games. Despite his goal I think Ziyech and CHO have been pretty poor and both should have been subbed far earlier than the 80th minute. Obvs have no idea about players fitness and recoveries etc but Havertz has been woefully underused imo.

That’s my point CFC. We looked for more effective with Kante and Kovacic in front of a back four as we did in the first spuds game.
That’s what made the Jorginho selection puzzling to me!

Hopefully one or maybe two of our loan army can potentially fill som gaps CFC.
I assume we won’t take Saul in a permanent deal and I think it’s also likely RLC and Barkley will be moved on.
I hope we sign a Rice type player so we can play with four at the back and it could be that Jorginho also moves on.
