Q. Who was the last Chelsea manager for five consecutive years?
29 May 2024 10:47:45
I'm pretty sure there's not been one during my lifetime.

Dave Sexton?

The past has gone. I'm hoping Maresca sees out his 5 year contract and beyond.

You were right JBS, Dave Sexton. I had to look it up. John Neal lasted 4 seasons.

Yes if he does it has to mean he has been a success starting with essential top 4 place this coming season Id thonk. If not he will go and whoever made the appointment eg the SDs should with him I'd think.

About 62 years of supporting my Mighty Blues and only two managers in all that time have gone beyond five years. Docherty followed by Sexton.

It is extraordinary Tom and probably why some of us older supporters quite fancy a bit of managerial continuity again.

I thought it was Dave Sexton cos he was manager when I first started going to the Bridge and he seemed to be around for some time and when we had some great players and moments.

Chelsea’s longest serving manager was David Calderhead 1907 - 1933, I remember him well.

As you should Jimbo given you were his captain admittedly still quite young then?

JBS yes football was a a lot less complicated then, we used the kick and run method.
