Thankyou fellow posters for your comments on Conor yesterday. A good debate and it would appear the vast majority, myself included, would like him to stay. let's hope he signs that contract.
For those of you who have time, what are your thoughts on Jackson? Is he the man to lead the line next season?

For me he was the most improved player through the last season.
He is quick and much better in the air than I expected. Still prone to poor judgement and can miss an easy chance.
I would have loved to see him play for more games alongside Nkunku. Any other player we bring and can only be good for competition.
As I’ve said before, the so called modern CF seem to have taken over the “leader of the line” type player but if we only sign a replacement for Broja I will just about ok.

Jackson, although at times looking like he's never played football before (tripping over the ball, mirubbishting the ball completely), he really has something also. Always makes something happen and looking forward to watching him next year in his sophomore season for chelsea. I'm sure he'll look a lot less rookie.

I agree with TomB, he was much improved as the season progressed. Stopped getting constant yellows aknots every other game and started to be a tad more clinical. Still was missing easy chances and/ or making the wrong choice but if he were to make similar progress this upcoming season then he can end up being quite some player. Also think playing alongside a no10 which will be higher up the pitch would help his game a lot. Would mean he has the option of a pass after his long runs instead of always having to shoot.
Given it’s looking unlikely we’ll sign a ST who will start, someone like J. David would make a lot of sense or even Zirkzee (although not sure we’re interested)

The key point in a decision is,
How needed are the funds he brings is as home grown profit - to could we buy a replacement who is as versatile and as good as he is?

Matt, we are talking Jackson. Or, maybe I’ve misunderstood your post.

Jackson is really good at everything other than finishing. It remains to be seen if that is something that can be improved on. If we can't bring in an upgrade I've long said we need to bring in someone that does what he can't which in general is winning headers and creating chances for himself in the box.
I'd definitely carry on with him up front next season rather than shifting him left.

Finds what should be the easiest natural thing to him so very hard.
27 Jun 2024 18:19:14
Nib, so you didn’t see any improvement in his play through the season?
Also, for years it’s been reported that the hardest thing to do in football is score! That’s why generally they get paid the big bucks!

Tom, Jackson “leader of the line? ” He couldn’t lead a conga!
27 Jun 2024 19:16:08
Jimbo hardly. As I’ve said many times before and again above I’m not sure there is a so called “leader of the line” player out there or if that’s what most managers are looking for anymore.
The “man to lead the line” quote was the original question from G8 and is a phrase I consider almost dead in the water.
{Ed001's Note - Toney is there.}

I wouldn’t bet on it.
In my opinion and let me make it clear I think it’s a shame that the list of that type of player seems to be getting shorter season by season. My mate blames Pep but then he blames Pep for virtually everything.
27 Jun 2024 22:14:23
He did improve but he just reminded me of Werner would do the hard work but just wouldn’t pull the ball in net, and hardest thing? It’s there job Haaland didn’t struggle look I don’t think he’s a worldly and we require someone else in that position, who I don’t know and then hopefully he improves again and proves me wrong.
28 Jun 2024 03:12:35
I forgot Haaland was a dime a dozen striker and there wasn’t a massive queue for him when he moved to Dortmund and then again to City and Real aren’t considering spending £150m on him next year since there’s so many of equal quality around.
28 Jun 2024 10:43:02
Nib, every season that Werner was at the club he got worse. It’s was like every bit of confidence just got drained out of him!
28 Jun 2024 11:11:32
I meant Gallagher, sorry,
Regarding Jackson. He improved massively in his play. And I’m not against him being the one to lead the line but I would want genuine competition,

A welder welds if not good enough things go wrong a joiner joins if it doesn’t fit in it does work a goal scorer scores goals if he misses then he goes it not hard to figure things out don’t say your something your not.
