Tom, anything is possible Greece and Denmark have won it against the odds. However, if England play as they have done, the Swiss will beat us. Southgate probably start with the same eleven.

Despite all the jubilation, let's not forget that Jude's strike in the 95th minutes was their FIRST shot on target for the whole game - and if that ridiculous pass from Kyle Walker had ended up in the back of the net, which well it might, there would have been no amazing comeback from 2-0 down.

Dempsey, absolutely right, the win has merely papered over the cracks. Except for Guehi, who is suspended, Southgate will probably pick the same starting eleven, if he does his luck will run out.

England have been beyond woeful so far this tournament. 4 goals 3 of them lucky (although Jude’s bicycle was especially skillful, you can’t rely on scoring 30 seconds from time) and 2 from heavily deflected crosses. Mainoo, Gallagher and TAA, none have worked so it is clearly the system that’s broken. The tactics and personnel just are pretty poor. I would bench the entire top 4. All of them have been pretty anonymous and Bellingham looks absolutely dead on his feet. If Shaw isn’t fit then Gomez needs to start. Don’t see any of it happening but major surgery is required.

Unfortunately I don't hope England can win pit. I have always believed English players are criminally overrated, just a few good performances here and there and sentimental raves gallore. Maybe soon enough you will realise that cg is just overrated the way he's being overhyped by Chelsea fans especially the English side. That overhype is the reason he pitched himself with the board over overvaluing himself. English media and pundits always hype their players which they never had the potential to match and get overwhelmed and disappear into oblivion. The hype help them secure lucrative contracts and then feel they are now world class and wither away like cho, barkeley etc.

{Ed001's Note - you clearly have no understanding at all. Yes the media overhype English players, but that is not why Gallagher wants a pay rise. He wants a pay rise because Chelsea brought in a lot of players on much, much higher salary than him and he is aggrieved as none of them have shown themselves to be better than him on the pitch but are paid more than double his salary.

As for CHO and Barkley, neither withered away because of money. That is something you made up in your head as part of your anti-English bigotry. CHO suffered injuries and struggled to return due to them, it is a mental battle after an injury which takes time. Falcao took about 3 years to return to any sort of form after he had his long term injuries. He is not English, just struggled to get over the fear it was going to go again. As for Barkley, you bought a drunken bum with a terrible attitude and then wondered why you got a drunken bum with a terrible attitude who was always going to struggle. The guy was just a prick, with or without money he was always going to get into trouble due to drink.}

Ed001, I generally agree with you. However, as for Gallagher, I have no idea what he wants and what he has been offered. The landscape regarding wages has changed at the club. True there are several players who are on ridiculously high wages who have made very little meaningful contributions for a couple of seasons for varying reasons. Feeling aggrieved is generally a waste of energy. Offer him the same wages as Palmer.

{Ed001's Note - from what I can gather, he is not asking for anything like as much as the likes of Sterling. I don't see how you can compare his wages with Palmer, who was a youth player with no experience when he arrived. Gallagher has a few years behind him to have earnt a higher pay grade than what Palmer will be on. The only way that would work, is if Palmer is also given a pay rise at the same time, which would be silly after just one season.}

I’m not sure how a club or player work out what an individual is worth in terms of salary.

Sterling is paid over £300k per week, I think Caicedo is about £150k per week and Chuka is on a £100k per week.

I personally think that Caicedo is worth much more to the club than any other midfield player but Enzo gets paid more.

The club can’t turn back the clock on the Sterling package but his salary looks like a complete outlier.
