Ed always saying Liverpool are obsessed with Chelsea academy, now they're breaking their youth wage structure to take Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea, big loss.

Agree0 Disagree0

The word "potentially" needs to go before your last 2 words.

It’s always a shame to lose such a potential talent but we can hardly complain when we have signed young players from around the world.

If I remember correctly the lad is only just approaching his 16th Birthday.

We get criticism for doing it.

It's nice to help clubs in need, we have been helping Italian clubs for years.

Well I’ve been critical at times of this board and only thing I ever want is honestly and context to an opinion, but the anger towards our owners online when olise rice musiala walked away for £0 must of been lost on me.

I’ve seen anger at staff leaving but not praise for the appointments made, criticism of medial department but nothing of the appointments made and hopefully issues addressed there,

Matt

Apparently our medical team is having a refresh which is something I have been calling out for but it's far too early to give praise, we just need to see what our injury status is this season.

Are you saying we should praise to our recruitment team when we all know we have bee crying out for an experienced CB, GK and ST yet they are still concentrating on young talent.

If you are happy with that then great, let's see how the youngsters fare but for goodness sake don't get on their backs and criticise them for the next couple of seasons, same goes for the new coach.

{Ed001's Note - you've just hired Craig Roberts as Head of Performance Medicine (whatever that is). He has been out of work since quitting Bournemouth in December, though that doesn't mean anything with regard to how good he is. He could have been rejecting options galore to have a break, it is more that you can look at the Cherries injury history over the 8 years prior to that when he was working there to get an idea about him.}

Matt, some people have rigid views and agendas. They also give there opinion as if that means everyone else is wrong.

I admit to having biased opinions but I would like to think I also admit when I get things wrong and there’s a lot to admit to.!

Some may have a negative opinion about a player who then plays well for a series of games but then hand a bad game. We then see the “I told you so” brigade rush to reinforce there biased opinion.

I have been guilty of all the above. I’m really looking forward to next season. I think we have a strong squad and I’m hoping the manager can get the best out of them.

You're not wrong tom. I've always been a big fan of sterling and he's always caught pelters on here but I still think he has a lot to offer, though that's me being bias for sure.

Bill, it’s not as if signing an experienced CB/ ST/ GK is like going to the shop to buy a candy bar. There’s a dearth of top level ST’s out there with pretty much only Osimhen on the market. But he’s had a poor year at Napoli and was poor at AFCON too. Makes it a lot more risky to spend £120m and quite likely £3-400k/ week on him. That’s even if he’d want to sign for us as it’s been said he wants CL football.

As for experienced GK’s there’s only really Maignan or Oblak but I can’t see either coming to us, the club have reportedly been looking at the Valencia and Georgian GK and D. Costa at Benfica/ Portugal but the latter would cost €80m.

Then CB’s I’m not really sure who’s out there barring maybe Bastoni.

Fuser I agree with you regarding experienced players and how much they would cost and how difficult to obtain however how much money are we spending in this window on more youth when we already have a large young squad plus a great academy.

The whole thing just not make sense to me. we seem to buying youth now for the sake of it, where are they all hoing to fit in and don't get me started on them not promoting the academy players into the first team squad.

09 Jul 2024 18:48:43
Bill, I’m a bit like you as to how all this young talent is going to fit eventually into the first team squad.

The thing is there seem to be a lot of clubs buying/ signing potential talent from within the UK and global markets this season.

I seem to remember reading that one premiership team had signed about six players from other uk academies this season alone.

I do agree that some of the younger purchases don’t make sense to me but imo I think we’ve signed a decent experienced CB in Tosin. Think we could probably get either of the 2 GK’s I mentioned above although I would be okay to stick with Petrovic another season.
