Welcome to Jörgensen, let's hope we finally have a true no1 GK on our hands.

I do also think it is worth pointing out we have now spent around £65m on 4 GKs (Slonina, Sanchez, Petrovic and Jörgensen) . At least two of whom now appear to have no viable future at the club. We also have 11 GKs on the books. Throw enough at the wall and something might stick.

Had a brief look at him last night.

Looks like a good line keeper, big enough without being huge and profiles fairly well on balls coming into the box. Agility and 1v1s also look strong.

Appears pretty calm on the ball in tight spaces, although the actual passes aren’t always as accurate or sympathetic as they might be.

Looks a decent option, and certainly a little more dynamic than Petrovic looked at times last season.

Not a standout yet, but room to grow into a very good keeper, I’d say. At the moment, I think Chelsea has about 4 keepers all on about the same level, so will be interesting to see how things develop.

Never a good idea to judge a player just on clips as they always only show the good bits but I did eventually source a could genes I could scan throats well.

As you say he looks assured with ball at his feet but I can’t remember seeing him dominant by taking/ catching crosses.

He get down well and looked a very good shot stopper but had a tendency to push the ball back into play (very Mendy like) .

I haven't watched him at all but it seems clear he's been brought in primarily due to his ability with his feet, rather than his arms.

You would assume he will be immediately inserted in as the no1. I don't want to see uncertainty over this position dragging on into the season.

I have opinions on the GK merry-go-round but it's largely redundant. We have what we have and we're in a position where we have to sell the one I think everyone agrees is the only one worth keeping (not including Jörgensen in this) .

Christ. Do we really have 11GK on the books, and not a single recognised #1. Best of luck to the guy but I truly have no idea what we are doing.

31 Jul 2024 13:23:19
I’m assuming that’s through all age groups and loan keepers but nevertheless that seems a lot.

31 Jul 2024 13:50:41
Still hope Sanchez goes. He always has me worried when he starts.

31 Jul 2024 13:55:07
Sanchez, Kepa, Petrovic, Slonina, Bettinelli, Bergström, Jörgensen, Beach, Curd, Sharman-Lowe which is 10, plus this latest child we appear to be buying for 20m called Mike Penders.

31 Jul 2024 14:38:18
Putting aside the players on loan, i assume the various age levels require two qualified age group players or maybe you can have a set amount of over age players.

31 Jul 2024 19:00:17
Ludicrous amount of keepers; however, surely he is better than Sanchez?.

31 Jul 2024 23:12:39
Sanchez is another transfer which was baffling. It may seem ridiculous but I'm almost certain it was so we could get caicedo over the line. which ended up happening onlu after we spent another 35m.

I very much doubt that the signing of Sanchez had anything to do with the signing of Caicedo.

A couple of good saves in our latest friendly.

Just had a quick look at how many goalkeepers other teams have on their books . United have 10 and Liverpool have 11 also. Seems to be quite common.

01 Aug 2024 07:56:46
I hope so too tom but I don't think you'd find many people in football or on forums that would think spending 25m on Brighton's 3rd choice keeper was a good idea, but we went and did exactly that.

Hdkn, very interesting, thanks for the information.

Standard, In comparison to Mendy in my opinion it was an upgrade.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You see I think Sanchez and Petrovic are better than Kepa and Mendy. Mind you it is a low bar. Shows that the previous owner struggled towards the end of his tenure to sign quality keepers.
.

01 Aug 2024 12:31:04
That's true but I find the claim that sanchez is better than mendy as a ludicrous one.

01 Aug 2024 13:54:37
Standard an opinion is not a “fact” it’s just an opinion and I thought Mendy was one of the worst goalkeepers we have signed in over 60 years.

It’s your opinion that Sanchez is inferior to Mendy. Neither opinion is “Ludicrous. ”.

01 Aug 2024 20:53:27
Strange how we see things differently over the last couple years would rank our keepers

1.Kepa
2.Petrovic
3.mendy
4.Sanchez

But importantly I didn't think any of them are good enough oh to have a Cech or Courtois.

01 Aug 2024 21:58:13
Seymns, yep we all players differently.

I actually thought Kepa would improve as time went on but any improvement that did happen was only marginal.

I had doubts about Mendy when we signed him. I think it was a rare occasion when Jimbo and I agreed about a keeper.

Petrovic is young for a Keeper and he deserved to keep the No. 1 slot after Sanchez got injured.

The best keeper I’ve seen at the Bridge was obviously Big Pete followed by The Cat and then Courtois.

Over the years we had some above average keepers but Mendy for me is definitely in my bottom three.

01 Aug 2024 23:01:15
Obviously tom. I'm not speaking objectively. Read again, I said I find your claim to be ludicrous. Very pedantic.

02 Aug 2024 06:16:39
Standard, I assumed your comment was general and objective hence my general response about opinions.
