Hey up lads.
Visiting on friendly terms…. Right Conor Gallagher… let’s talk, here to learn. ?
I think he looked really solid for you in CDM last season. Really seemed to help other players do their best in a Milner/ Henderson vibe.
Looked lacking and a poor man’s Lampard when playing further up.
Personally I’d have him at Utd over Amrabat, Casemiro, Ugarte at CDM. For CM no.
? Now the lads on the Utd page think he’s ass…
?You watch him more than anyone.
1.How good is he?
2. Where’s his best position?
3. What are you thinking of how he’s being treated?

He would be perfect at Utd, Liverpool, City and Arsenal but it appears the respective managers don’t fancy him or maybe already have similar players.
Sometimes managers just don’t see a player fitting into the way they want to play!
As a player he works hard and fans love him for that work ethic.
I can’t make up my mind about his best position.
He has apparently been offered a contract but not for the length he would like. If he were to except the clubs offer he would have a comparable salary to Caicedo and Fernandez and about twice as much as Palmer. I assume the manager isn’t a massive fan hence the club’s reluctance to give him a long term contract. A manager not being a fan of a player is both new and the club mig wanting him to go on a free next season understandable.
I suppose if Utd could get a fee for Greenwood we should expect a fee for Gallagher. After all clubs rarely like to give away an asset.

Utd Road, Gallagher only really played in the DM role for about 4 or 5 games last season which coincided with Cucurella inverting so it’s hard to say if he was truly suited to the position. Further up field he does lack a bit of creativity and end product with not many assists or goals but he does well pressing from the front.

Best in a 3, and I think the Henderson comparison is spot on. Henderson was very important to Liverpool's success and as will Gallagher be wherever he ends up.
The way he's been treated has been a joke. It's very clear the owners treat academy players poorly and view them only as 'pure profit' assets to sell to cover our awful investments in players that are not needed.

fuser, I hope this makes sense. One of the best presser’s of a defence I’ve seen was Eto. He didn’t press a defender straight on but he did close down space and generally got a CD passing to a FB and that would be the trigger for his team to produce a full press.
This is probably more of a criticism of coaches but for me CG presses a defender head on, this doesn’t trigger a full press or shut down space. His energy gets him to the player and fans live the energy but I always wonder if has the desired effect.
As I say, I hope that makes sense and I do think it’s more about coaches rather than CG.

The press to work well does need more than one player! That is down to the coach as much as individual players and agree with you Tom that CG one of the best there is with this and gaining possession in final third.
I also agree with the comoparison with Henderson and have made same point in past. It is also hard to quantify statistically what such players like Henederson and CG bring in terms of being the kind of beating heart of a side, 110% effort every game, and I think if we lose both TC and CG we lose something more than the sum of two v good players,

JBS, I want CG to stay but I can’t see him being a regular starter if the other midfielders stay fit.
I personally think Chalaboa is a better defender than Disasi and the decision being made about him on lots of levels is in my opinion strange.

He's better than all of our CB's bar colwill, in my opinion.

Agree about TC.
