I was talking to a mates son earlier in the week and he works for the Brighton owners gaming/ investor company.

I asked him a question about defenders and goalkeepers now passing out rather than the goalkeeper kicking long!

He started talking about Barcelona, City and Pep but he also told me that while playing for Brighton at CH Colwill headed the ball only twice in five games while on his season loan.
He also said in two games this season he has a similar stat.

I wouldn't have a clue if he was being factual or just using that supposed stat as a way of making his point.

Anyway, if true, I found it interesting about how football has changed in recent seasons.

Interesting stat Tom and thanks for it. Made me wonder whether the proportion of headed goals has reduced too as teams play ball mopre along ground yet surely still want to cross into area from open play and set pieces. Certainly we haven't seemed to score that many in recent times.

JBS, we would all love it if you can thread the ball through and score goals but most teams now even from the lower leagues can generally work out a system to restrict chances in their box and play on the counter attack. Leaving aside set pieces, if your wingers can put the ball into the box and you have a forward who can get up and head the ball, it adds variety to your game plan.

JBS, I found a sight that players headed clearances.

I appreciate that stats can may mean anything that anyone wants to support there own argument but I find it interesting that apparently Colwill has made 25 headed clearances so far this season and Fofana 27 (obviously less games.

Thanks for update on defensive header stats Tom. Jimbo I'm with you on the need for us to have an attacking player who can pose a serious aerial threat as some of my previous posts have suggested and we haven't got one at the moment.

There can’t be many clubs who cross the ball as often as they used to.

The strange thing is and if I remember correctly the players with the most headed clearances play for teams near the bottom of the league. So maybe the stat is a reflection of cross prevention.

Colwill was playing at LCB in a 3 for Brighton (mostly), so less likely to head the ball than as one of a pair, perhaps?

Good point FD. Stats usually have loads of different ways of looking at them.
