RIP Denis Law. A wonderful player who I was fortunate enough to see many times.

Tom, agree absolutely about Denis Law, great player. I definitely saw in once 1969 : we won 3-2, 65,000 at the Bridge. What great players were on the pitch that day: didn’t realise how lucky I was to be there. ; just like seeing David Bowie for a fiver and Thin Lizzy in their heyday.

Or, Gino Washington at the Ram Jam Club, Cream at Streatham ice rink, The Who on Yarmouth pier ir The Faces at the Marquee.
All brilliant but not as good as the only Scottish Balan Dor winner.

Tom, I know we are straying off Chelsea but the Faces were my favourite band. Strangely, I wasn’t a big Rod Steward fan; he didn’t make a decent album after Never a Dull Moment; probably because I was a big Small Faces fan: saw the Faces at least a dozen times: Ronnie Lane was the soul of the band- happy days.

Yes RIP Denis Law a great player and character. I know as a youngster I saw him at the Bridge in 1970 when we won 2-1 and again the next season when we lost 2-3 and George Best was sent off . I kept those programmes for many years. don't think Denis scored in either match but do recall Hutchinson scoring twice in the first. How we could do with a player in the side today with his heading ability plus he had that amazingly long throw that you will both remember well. Not sure we'd have anyone now to get on the end of it with header in the box. then we had Ozzie of course who was good at everything!
Didn't see the Small Faces or Cream live sadly but did get to the Who at the Valley (1974?) .

Seen Dennis at hampden for Scotland. All us kids loved seeing the Anglo-Scots, the name given to Scots who played for English clubs. Cooke, McCreadie of course, Law, Bremner, Lorimer, Gray. As a side story I also vividly remember whilst turning out for the school football team our headmaster would check us players before leaving the dressing room loudly stating “no Dennis Laws or George Bests in this team” a reference to wearing our shirts outside of shorts! He would then take his position at the half way line in a long grey heavy woollen coat, highly polished brown brogues, soft hat and heavy rimmed spectacles. He wouldn’t have looked out of place in one of those black and white Cold War movies that done the rounds during the late 50s early 60s. Happy days.
