Hey Ed,
The athletic is suggesting that Chelsea will be pursuing what it calls 2 "marquee" signings this window, in addition to Ziyech, listing players like Sancho, Havertz, Werner and Dembele Ad attacking players of interest and Chilwell as a left back that we apparently want. Is this truly what Chelsea are attempting to do? It seems unlikely to me as that would surely be a heck of a lot of money, but as I know nothing that's why I ask!

{Ed002's Note - I do not believe Chelsea would use the term "marquee signings" at all. There are a significant number of players that have been looked (many have been shared here) and a subset will be followed up and a subset of those will be signed. This includes players in a number of positions.}

I'm glad that the Havertz interest seems to be true.
As a side, Ed what do you think of the overall content that The Athletic has been putting out?

Ed002 with high price an issue with havertz, would leverkusen not making the champions league make them willing to sell for lower as no fans or champions league money coming in they might need funds?

Sorry Ed, should have been clearer. I meant that the athletic said we wanted to sign “marquee players†not that it reported that Chelsea called it’s targets “marqueeâ€. It was more the feasibility I was questioning as it seemed like it would be expensive. How does a club decide what a target is worth? And do clubs really have “transfer budgets†as the papers always try to make us believe? Or is it more, they look for players with a profile that they want and then take them on a deal by deal basis?
{Ed002's Note - Clubs will put a cap on what they are prepared to pay for a player - which is really unrelated to what a player is worth. Some clubs have fixed budgets for transfers including all fees, some clubs have broader budgets which can be adjusted to some extent, and a few will have more money available for transfers (but it doesn't mean they will spend it unwisely).}
