Matt Law came out with this in a podcast.
He said that he had no expectation of knowledge that Chelsea WERE interested.
But has said that the move would make sense for all parties.

@tomb, I'm not sure but all the most reliable websites said we matched the bid, as well as his agent if I can remember it correctly. We definitely were keen on him, just Not for the amount they wanted.

To be honest Standard I’m not that sure if we did or didn’t, I just seem to one of the Eds making a comment about our offer rumour.
