A torn hamstring for Reece James which is likely 3-4 months out, Chilwell out long term and no fit midfielders. The club need to act and back Tuchel immediately in the market. My preference would be Koundé, Tchouameni, Dest and Digne on loan.
Ed002, I know teams don't do much business usually in January, but surely the board know they need to bolster a now wafer-thin squad?

{Ed002's Note - It is not a wafer thin squad. Chelsea has only one senior squad place available without having players move on. Statements like "the club need to act and back Tuchel immediately" are ill-informed nonsense. The club has a clear understanding of potential targets and the club will not buy players for the sake of it. They have identified some potentially very good players and some youngsters who might make good long-term solutions (including in midfield and at LWB) and are working with agents to see what can be done in advance of the summer. Those providing advice, and those taking decisions will continue on the path that they have identified and has worked well in the past.}

Sad for the lad. That’s far more important than football.

A torn hamstring can change a players career.

Sorry Ed002, it is just extremely frustrating to know that our title challenge this season has crumpled because back-up players aren't good enough.

{Ed002's Note - More embarrassing nonsense.}

The club don't look at it a season at a time. Why would we sign Digne, who can't be match fit and Everton want shot of, on an expensive loan? Unless one of our long term options is available making any signing because of an injury is a crazy notion.

Of course they / we want to be competitive in all competitions, which we currently are. We're second in the league, if we're not challenging City for the title, who is? No one, in reality they'll likely run away with it - because through the course of a league season they are currently the best team in the league - by a stretch. We've got a great chance of progressing further in the UCL, making a final in the League Cup and I'm sure we'll be competitive in the FA Cup. Not to mention the opportunity to add the CWC to our trophy cabinet. We're doing all this with a few CV cases and a injuries, but our backups aren't good enough. Seems to me that most, even those I don't like, are doing a decent job for the club.

Success is obviously a bitter pill to swallow for some “J”.

We all want to win every game and every competition but that isn’t going to happen.

Do people really expect us to challenge a full strength City when pretty much every single one of our key players have missed a significant portion of the season and the injuries just keep on piling up. Think LB cover is essential but rest of the squad can wait until summer. Possibly a CM but hopeful of Kante and Kovacic returning properly.

This isn’t that our back up players aren’t good enough. This is our forward players aren’t contributing enough. You add to that kane and firminho gundogen and our top scorer was jorginho with 7? Obviously CV injuries not helping but we need to be more attacking and better in front of goal,

Bad news about Reece. TT stated that we don’t have any wingbacks: he is only half right, we have Alonso, who if you recall was being picked ahead of Chilwell by TT at the start of the season. I am more concerned about cover for Reece. Hopefully the players who caught C.V. will be fully fit soon. We now have two long term injuries, so it’s up to TT to come up with solutions, that’s what he’s paid for.

3/ 4 months?

Depends on trhe grade of injury but very very unlikely.

I'm qualified to say that.

RJ - nice to have you back, I bet you're looking forward to upsetting everyone in the window?

30 Dec 2021 15:40:15
Nath, I have a right to an opinion as much as you.

30 Dec 2021 15:47:13
Matt, putting aside Mount who's stats are outstanding this an all to familiar story.

30 Dec 2021 15:51:03
Also Tom, we’ve most goals from corners and most penaltys this season, that shows a lack of creativity in open play, lukaku being out obviously huge impact, I’d of thought him available / fit for Burnley Everton wolves would of been the difference,

30 Dec 2021 15:51:17
I'd argue Mount, Lukaku, Havertz and Werner are our top forwards. All of which have missed periods this season.

30 Dec 2021 16:15:58
edoo2 guessing the midfielder is tchouameni but who is the lb? hernandez?

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in someone other than Hernandez.}

30 Dec 2021 16:23:37
Dest? Seems to be the only other potential starter on the earlier provided list.

30 Dec 2021 16:26:06
Well for all my moaning Ed, appreciate the information you provided.

30 Dec 2021 18:35:26
Ed002 daniel davies? Or someone else? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant.}

30 Dec 2021 20:38:56
Thanks Ed for clarifying lots of things.

I don't like to overreact. We haven't done well in the past few games and it comes down to lots of things. We might not win the league so be it, it's not the end of the world.
The important thing is for us to understand that we need to change things gradually and move on to new things.
Let's see how things pan out. It's not the time to consider drastic changes in my opinion.
