According to some reports our club has approached Ipswich about McKenna.

I can't say I know much about him but he improved Hutchinson as a player and got the tractor boys double promotions. The Premiership experience thing isn't such a big deal for me but I'm sure some fans will not be happy.

Anyway, at the moment it's just media talk and may not happen.

He'll be sacked next year so doesn't really matter does it.

Standard, the bloke hasn’t been appointed yet but he is getting the sack.

If he is our next manager give him a chance FGS.

Far too big a gamble given he has absolutely no EPL experience yet. Can you imagine what the players will make of the club parting ways with Poch only to replace him with an EPL novice. How about Arteta some may say. Well Arteta had been understudy to arguably the world's best coach in Pep and of course was a fine player that others could look up to himself.

One of the reasions surely that all the players bought into Poch as manager was that he had pretty impressive experience of managing great players like Harry Kane and those under him at PSG. Which is why when Ed002 says he would have backed Jose to take his place - given Slot to LFC - I would at least agree that he had that same experience. As will have been clear, I would far have preferred Poch to stay as undoubtedly would have the current players. As it is the appointment must be somneone that players will look up to from day one. Now it might be that the Ipswich bloke is so charasmatic that they would. But would they, and especially when the going gets tough, as it will at some stage? What happened to Potter or even Lamps in this respect?

The apppointment must be someone the players realise, at least before the start of the next season, that they can trust and admire and who will get them off to a flying start. Afdter all he has to get them and us Top 4 as bottom line. This would have been the case with Poch but he's gone so who would be better> None of those suggested so far have CVs that have filled me with much confidence.

We mihght give him a chance but point is how long would the owners and Sporting Directors Tom? As long as Potter was given? What would be the bottom line for him and us in terms of achievement in first season. surely after how we finished this last one it has to be a solid Top 4 minimum?

McKenna was understudy to Mourinho if i'm not mistaken - so there are parallels with Arteta.

But the Arteta comparison completely misses the point. There are many more examples of coaches who have taken roles above their experience level and struggled. Just because it worked for one does not mean it will work for another.

Plus, Arteta himself struggled in his first two seasons at Arsenal. It worked well for that club but there are huge cultural differences.

As a club, we are not setup for a slow burn - we need UCL revenue. And fans will simply not have the patience to get through the tough times.

That is why you go for more established names who carry pedigree and can bring people together.

JBS, My guess is they wi give an inexperienced manager the same amount of time as an experienced manager. If you’re not a successful……goodbye! It was the same under Roman.

This morning I started some research on McKenna. I asked a few mates who have supported Ipswich (for some strange reason) for years and I looked at his CV. He is not a novice and has worked with some respected names in football. Just maybe our players would react positively to some fresh ideas and coaching methods.

TomB the point was obviously regardless of what happens he'll likely be sacked within the year. New owners love spending a pretty penny to bring in a manager and then sack them before there contract expires. It's like it's reverse financial competency with this club.

Standard, I desperately trying to respect your opinions as I have virtually every other poster on this site but it is difficult when you post things that are just plain wrong.

Your “regardless of what happens” quote is obviously wrong as they have sacked managers who under the BP have failed. That is no different to RA. If a manager is successful there would be zero need to sack him.

The owners do NOT “love spending a pretty penny” on managers just to sack them. That would frankly be ridiculous.

Read the keywords Tom. 'Likely'. Chances are he won't make the year based on the owners history.

Sure seems like it, we've probably spent more than Madrid on managers alone in severance packages and release clauses.

I think you should read my post again.

Owners do NOT spend money on managers just to sack them and if a manager is successful he is not “likely” to be sacked within a year.
