Ed001, there are reports that Chelsea are interested in Garnacho which is making me want to pull my hair out. I think he his a lightweight, big-headed brat who has shown disloyalty to his coach, club and teammates. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. Am I off the mark?

{Ed001's Note - I think you are pretty close. I do not rate him at all. He has no football brain.}

If you pull your hair every time we are reported to be interested in a player you can’t have much left.

What I say is “don’t do it. ”.

100 per cent agree can't stand the player . If he arrives he won't be the first player I coundn't stand to join Chelsea .

The first i remember was Mickey Thomas and I was never a huge fan of Mark Hughes.

Tom, fortunately I still have a lot of hair but fear I will lose a lot in the coming transfer window.

seymns, totally forgotten about Mickey Thomas . Didn’t like him at all. Just looked him up. He was convicted of money laundering in the 90s; he used traineees at Wrexham and got 18 months imprisonment: no great suprise.

Treat the rumours as fun and then get angry when they become fact is my motto!

The last rumour I saw was him going to Napoli and Osimhen going to Surrey Utd.

That was then followed by Osimhen coming to us for £63m.

Unfortunately any link to Sesko has disappeared and he now seems gooner land bound.

I understand we are after Jamie Gittens not Garnacho and Joe Shields is driving this having been with him at Man City. Time will tell who comes in on that left side. ED01 what is your opinion on Gittens?

For me to reply.

Garnacho is a no from me.

UTD will still want top money and for me the player plays for himself and is not somebody we want to put into our squad to disrupt it.

I know we are getting Delap but just wondering who will be the top striker we go for that we need.

I didn't much like Mickey Thomas either though didn't know about the money laundering!

I wasn't sure about Mark Hughes coming to us but that come back against Liverpool in the FA Cup in 1997 - before we went on to win it for first timne since 1970 - chanmged my mind. I'd almost given up hope when we were trailing 0-2 at half-time. But then MH came on as sub scored a fantastic goal, won the freekick from which Zola scored superb equaliser, Vialli scored two more and all in all that was one of the best halves of CFC football lodged in my fading memory!

I think Hughes added both been-there-done-that type experience and a bit of his combustible toughness to our squad.

I haven't seen much of Gittens but would love to know more aboiut the qualities he could add to our sqad from those who have.

I still think that Jackson could be very usefully used coming in wide from the left - ie as left sided attacker/ winger - if we have a Delap or indeed an Osimhen/ Gyokeres/ Etikete as central striker and/ or Jackson could compete for striker role and there would be options for manager if/ when injutries or suspensions.

JBS, I would be astonished if we sold Jackson. His work off the ball goes unrecognised by so many fans and I can only see him getting better.

I know a couple of Dortmund fans who have been really irritated with Gittens in the last few months. He's very raw still, in my understanding, and selfish on the ball, failing to pass to teammates and only looking to take a man on. Also often slows down play for a one on one dual with a defender, allowing the other team to reset (where have we seen all these features before? It's almost like we're determined to keep buying more or less the same winger over and over) . 50m seems a lot for a player only breaking through this year.

Honestly, the Joe Shields thing is really starting to irritate me. If we're just looking to be City lite we should change the club's name and the shade of blue.

Agree with you Tom about NJ. though it may also be a question of whether Jackson would be happy to stay if not the main striker.

EdW, I’m not sure why signing ex City players would annoy you or any other Chelsea supporters. I think I would be more annoyed if I was a City supporter.

I don’t like it when a path for a quality academy player is blocked off by signing a player but that happened one hell of a lot under RA’s ownership but I’m ok if signing any player if it’s an upgrade and the City players we have signed are better than we have produced at our academy.

As far as Gittens is concerned he in my opinion is better than Noni or Mudryk. He is a bit of a head down type of player but he can’t be that bad to have played about 40 games for Dortmund this year.

EdW, I don’t know anything about Gittens so I can’t comment. However. our recent wide player signings have been disappointing. Is it only Joe Shields who is irritating you? I have a much longer list. lol.

Jimbo, I bet it’s a longer list than the one with people who don’t irritate you! ?.

Jimbo, yes, it's a longer list than just Shields. :)

Ed001, when you've got a free moment, as per Greenaway I would love to hear your opinion on Gittens.

{Ed001's Note - the problem is I have only seen him come on as a sub, where he looked quick and purposeful, but that could simply be because he was fresh legs against tiring ones. I was looking into him and there have been complaints about his greed on the ball from team mates. I wouldn't have seen that as an issue for Chelsea under Maresca, who will want him passing more. I would expect Maresca to drill him to pass.}

21.) 03 Jun 2025
03 Jun 2025 11:21:10
My criticism of him is he has a tendency to play with his head down and that is something I would criticise Noni for as well.

And Mudryk, Tom. And Neto. And, to a degree, Sancho. It's like we keep buying/ loaning the same winger. Or it's just a general winger trait? I think Liverpool fans say Salah never passes, right Ed001? Always takes the shot But the results with Salah are so much better because he tends to score, even if he also frustrates his teammates at times. Maybe the character of a winger, the kinds of people who become wingers, tend towards selfishness?

{Ed001's Note - sometimes people used to complain, not so much now as they have finally noticed the assists he gets. It used to amaze me that Mane got away with creating nothing for teammates but Salah used to get criticised for being greedy even though he was getting many more assists than Mane. These days they do tend to shoot more, the play is set up for them to cut in on their stronger foot and that can often lead to them hitting shots. Wingers used to specialise in getting wide, hitting the byline and crossing, but that seems to be outmoded now.}
