Front of shirt sponsor update.
Chelsea's decision to resist entering into a front-of-shirt deal without Champions League qualification and trophy success is expected to pay off handsomely.
Well-placed industry sources have said that Chelsea were in talks with two companies last year over front-of-shirt sponsorship, but that the long-term deals on the table were worth about £40 million-per-year.
Chelsea decided to hold off and that figure has now rocketed to £60 million-a-year, with the club said to be in talks with seven to 10 big global companies over a long-term front-of-shirt sponsorship.
While it is unclear whether or not an agreement can be reached in time for the start of the Premier League campaign, there is optimism that Chelsea should agree a front-of-shirt sponsorship in time for the successful company to have their logo emblazoned on the player's shirts at some point next season.
A source said: "Chelsea would have left as much as £100m on the table by agreeing a long-term front-of-shirt sponsorship this time last year. With Champions League qualification and the Club World Cup, the club can now negotiate a much bigger deal. " £100 million is a huge amount of money and well done to the owners for having the cajones to hold out.

RPD, thanks for the update.

The maths was always there but with the CWC now having been won it’s reasonable to expect added interest and potentially a lot more money.

A sponsor gets his name on the CWC winners shirt for four years. That surely has to attractive to certain companies.

I know it's massive money but I love the kit without a sponsor.

Cheers RPD I read that yesterday.

The interesting thing for me is that we might start the season still without a sponser.

I have criticised the clubs owners for lots of things but I might well have to praise them for not taking on a five year sponsorship deal at a reported £35m per year when we were not in the Champions League and Club World Champions.

From the outside, that took some gonads!
