After a very disappointing pre season last year we went into the season with low expectations. This season we have performed ok in our shortened pre season and we go into the start of this seasons premiership on a high and with the Club World Champions logo in the centre of our shirt.

The pressure is on our manager, as it should be at the start of every season but I'm more than hopeful of us having a successful 25/ 26 campaign.

COME ON MY MIGHTY BLUES.

Agree with you Tom about far higher hope for this season than next. Ehst would be your definition of a successful season though? Top 4.2nd orv3rd. with 75 points going deep into Champion League tournament to semis at least ( though so much depends on draw) and a trophy in either CL or domestic cup? Well that would be my current hopes/ expectations.

Yet again typing plus autocorrect on my mobile meant errors in post sorry. I meant having much higher hopes for this season than last one and then to ask question of Tom and others of course how you would consider it a successful season. Then gave my opinion.

JBS, a minimum target is 76pts. That total would almost certainly guarantee Champions League football.

Although I think the scousers will retain there title I would like to think we will be in the mix. I have us finishing 2nd-4th but if I’m honest I will be disappointed if we finish fourth.

I think a minimum of the quarter final in the Champions League and win either the FA or League cup.

The only thing that can happen now is for next season to end with me being disappointed. ?.

JBS, I’m not sure how to judge success next season. The best I can come up with is seriously challenging for the title; going deep in the Champions League and perhaps a domestic trophy.
On the positive side, I am much more confident about the new season. We will definitely be in the top four and we will score a lot of goals. I think there will be a big gap between fourth and fifth place next season. However, I still have concerns about our defence. I don’t see TC and Tosin as CBs who will bring you up to the next level. To that end, it is important that Fofana stays fit next season . Obviously, Hato can play at left side CB.
IMO, if we bring in a goalkeeper, a CB and Fofana and James stay fit anything can happen. As Tom said the pressure is always on the coach at the highest level. Towards the end of last season Maresca was far more flexible in his tactics: let’s hope that continues.

Enjoyed both replies and think that your definitions of success for this season are fairly closely aligned with each other's and mine too.

Yes injuries to key players could as always play a big role and may come for some as belated result of CWC or just bad luck. I do think bringing a top CB addition may be wise now with LC injury, TC injury scare today plus Fofana fitness ever suspect. Goalie upgrade if possible would also help the cause as long as that goalie a clear upgrade on current options of course.

For me success is top four and going deep in europe, I also think liverpool will be tough to get past.

The Colwill injury is a big miss in my eyes, would like to keep Veiga but that ship has sailed, so as stated above need a fit Fofana and / or a new CB.

Like many others think we need a keeper.

My optimistic predictions is we finish 2nd or 3rd, also think we are as likely as Madrid Liverpool Bayern PSG Barcelona or City to win the Champions league.

Good post seymns if particularly nbecause you don't incude Arsenal as a potential Champions League winner! This despite Arteta claimi g they were the best team in Europe last season. To be fair they did run PSG close but then so did the other EPL teams PSG played against. Unlike when PSG came up against us in CWC final of course!

I believe we're competing for all trophies this season.
